2021 Watch List: Charlotte Area Guards

The 2021 Watch List was updated recently for North Carolina. Here are the Charlotte area guards that are still available for colleges next season. She knows exactly where to move on the court to catch a pass and put up a shot. Her quick release is difficult to defend as players do not have enough time to close out on her as she shoots. She knows how to create separation between her and her defender if she needs to handle the ball first before putting up the shot. She has great vision of the court, too, making her a threat from all over, and she knows how to find her open teammates to get them involved in the game. She can drive to the basket with ease protecting every possession and showing no fear of the contact that may be waiting for her. She has interests from schools like UVA-Wise and Lenoir Rhyne. [player_tooltip player_id="217537" first="Abi" last="Svenson"] | Carolina Christian | SG Svenson may be one of the most underrated shooters in the state even though last season she was in the top three for shooting. You should definitely place bets every time she puts up a shot from behind the arc. She can shoot off of the pass, or she can create space for herself to show off her shot. She is a hustler, too, diving after loose balls and crashing the boards to try to grab every rebound that she can. Her length is an asset on defense as well grabbing steals by jumping into passing lanes. [player_tooltip player_id="217535" first="Neely" last="Grace Tye"] | Charlotte Latin | SG Tye is automatic when it comes to shooting. She knows how to get into position, catch the pass, and fire up a shot with very little warning. She does an excellent job by finding the open positions on the court in order for her to show off her shot. She can also use various moves to drive around her opponents to make a shot closer to the basket. She shows good vision of the court, too, getting her teammates involved making great passes into them for scores. She makes the exact passes she needs to in order to make sure her teammate is the only one who can grab it. [player_tooltip player_id="217523" first="Leah" last="Barringer"] | Zebulon B. Vance | CG Barringer is a scrappy guard that knows how to create her own offensive possessions by playing aggressive defense. She is known for grabbing steals and jumping into passing lanes that seemed impossible to inhibit. She uses speed and great ball handling to move up the court pass her opponents and score in transition or find an open teammate. She has a great jump shot from all over the court, so she can certainly score even when she does not make it close to the basket. She has interests from colleges like Limestone and Carolina University. [player_tooltip player_id="208365" first="Naya" last="Clamp"] | Myers Park | CG Clamp makes fast decisions which shows her IQ. She can make a decision in an instant to jump in front of a pass grabbing a steal or causing a deflection. She knows exactly what she wants to do with the ball once she receives a pass or grabs a rebound herself. She can drive it all the way to the hoop for a score, show off her shot from behind the arc, or drive the ball in order to pull defenders and dish it to her teammate. When she doesn’t have the ball, she is moving herself to the open areas of the court where she can contribute. She has been known as a shooter, but she is showing that she can do so much more. Her ability to grab steals and quickly move with the ball up the court is apparent every time she competes. She protects the ball using various moves to get to the basket, and she can certainly shoot from behind the arc, too. She has great vision of the court making good decisions and effective passes into her teammates to have them contribute some points as well. She has interests from schools like Roanoke College, Mary Baldwin University, and Bryn Athyn College. [player_tooltip player_id="217522" first="Mya" last="Olmeda"] | Charlotte Christian | CG<img class="size-medium wp-image-200161 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/09/Mya-Olmeda-copy-scaled-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /> Olmeda has become more and more dynamic over the summer. She can control the tempo of the game when handling the ball, and she has a nice shot that she can show off from downtown. She can make the shot off of a pass, or she can create her own separation from a defender. When handling the ball, she changes directions effectively making it difficult to defend her. She is aggressive on defense, too, creating her own offensive possessions. [player_tooltip player_id="217525" first="Serenity" last="Webb"] | Central Cabarrus | CG Webb is a versatile player who can drive the ball against any kind of competition. She has no fear of contact, and her ball handling skills allow her to move past her opponents with ease. Don’t be surprised to see her grab a steal and push it up the court, and she is very good at converting old fashioned three point plays in these scenarios. Driving to the basket isn’t her only strength, though, because she knows how to separate herself from her opponent to show off her jump shot. She can make shots from all over the court including behind the arc.
