In the trying times that we are all facing due to the pandemic, leaders emerge. Even among high school athletes, in times like this, teams need team leaders to look up to and follow. We will look at 10 of the top senior leaders in Michigan. [player_tooltip player_id="138300" first="Kenzie" last="Bowers"] (PG, Kent City) Bowers will go down as one of the best players to ever lace up shoes at Kent City. Part of her greatness is her ability to put her team on her back and lead. And under Bowers’ leadership, her team has seen great success. [player_tooltip player_id="27985" first="Abrie" last="Cabana"] (PG, Grass Lake) Cabana fits the definition of ’floor leader’ perfectly. She’s willing to sacrifice in every way, whether it be numbers or notoriety, to see her team be successful and pick up W’s. Cabana is the type of poised leader that every team wants. [player_tooltip player_id="138354" first="Olivia" last="Kubik"] (CG, Utica Ford) Kubik is a great example for her teammates, both on and off the basketball court. She plays the game with fire and with class, and will be key to her teams’ success through the pandemic. [player_tooltip player_id="138315" first="Logan" last="Lewis"] (CG, West Bloomfield) Lewis sets an example for her teammates to follow. I guarantee that she will continue to grind and get better throughout any pauses or shutdowns. If her team follows her path, they’ll be just fine. [player_tooltip player_id="138301" first="Emaia" last="O’Brien"] (PG, Chandler Park) O’Brien has been underrated for years now, but she doesn’t let it bother her. She stays mentally tough and continues to outperform the competition. That mental toughness is a skill that only great leaders posses. [player_tooltip player_id="28042" first="Brooklyn" last="Robak"] (CG, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes) Robak is such a high IQ basketball player. She plays an extremely intelligent game and has a keen understanding of the ebbs and flows of a game. Robak’s even keel is a great example to follow through these tough times. [player_tooltip player_id="27971" first="Ella" last="Stemmer"] (SG, Saline) Stemmer has led the resurgence of the Saline basketball program. She’s had a lot of pressure on her back since day 1 in high school, and she has responded with great success. Stemmer can bare the brunt of a big moment for her squad, and the pandemic is a perfect time for her team to turn to her. [player_tooltip player_id="138340" first="Nya" last="Thomas"] (CG, Belleville) Thomas is a really skilled perimeter player, there’s no doubt about that. But more importantly, she’s one of the classiest players in the state. Every coach wants to have a [player_tooltip player_id="138340" first="Nya" last="Thomas"] representing their program. [player_tooltip player_id="28017" first="Shannon" last="Wheeler"] (PF, Detroit Renaissance) Wheeler has one of the most well rounded games in the state, and possibly in the midwest. To go with that skill set, she’s willing to do all the little things that her Renaissance squad needs to be successful. Wheeler is always willing to sacrifice for the benefit of the team. That type of leader is critical in times like these. [player_tooltip player_id="26677" first="Morasha" last="Wiggins"] (SF, Kalamazoo Central) Wiggins is a flat out beast, in both basketball and life. She’s battles on the court, and did the same when she faced an injury last season. Wiggins fought through the injury and became better for it. If her teammates emulate her toughness through the pandemic, great things will come there way.
