One thing I hate is when people question me, about anything, especially girl’s basketball, who’s this or that because there are too many people giving advice and opinions about stuff that don’t know what they’re talking about but this goes back to Monday morning quarterbacks and I just laugh and shake my head. Dalana Carter transferred from Barbers Hill to Lutheran North season and watching her play freely was definitely pleasing to me, I hate to see talent bottled up yet when it’s shaken and you take the top off, it explodes as she did for just under 50 in Lutheran North’s 79-73 over Aggieland Home School and here are some of the standouts Lutheran North [player_tooltip player_id="65932" first="Dalanna" last="Carter"] Carter is an explosive score that has that extra boost while attacking the rim and when turbo gets going, she can get by anyone and her ability to finish, either all the way with contact or showing how she’s mastering the "floata" floater, she just adds so much energy. She has range, mid to long which she creates under pressure, she sees the floor and she can defend, and with her "cat-like" instincts, her ability to make steals while defending, this includes playing the passing lane shows why she’s where she is on my list, after all, I called her a #D1Lock in the 3rd/4th grade Andrea Ramirez-5’10 F Ramirez was powerful in the paint and helped set the tone early with her aggressiveness in the paint as she rebounded strongly on both ends. The senior also had several putbacks from offensive rebounds as well as attacked the rim strongly but she also scored facing the basket and played tough defense Kinsie Kim-5’3 PG Kim’s senior leadership stood out, well so did her long-range, and watching her shoot it the past couple of years legitimizes she can really shoot the long ball, especially under pressure. She also handles pressure while handling the ball and she and Carter made a nice combination Kaitlin Alexander-6’0 P Alexander was solid in the paint, she has a strong body and she uses it nicely as she battles for rebounds, let me say BATTLES, on both ends of the court and she also finished a few times. Throw in the fact that she did a good job defending inside the paint Aggieland Home School Hannah Batten-510 F Batten did a little bit of everything and provided the glue to keep her team in it. She basically scored at will around the basket early, showing nice hands and footwork as well as creating her shot and attacking the rim strongly but she also understands how to create her shot, under pressure and get it off, the same way, under pressure so she added the midrange to her offensive arsenal, she also scored by "playing the passing lane" which led to numerous layups Leah Klatt-5’9 P Klatt was powerful in the paint, she set picks early and rolled nicely to finish but she also battled inside the paint for rebounds and loose balls, and watching her compete on the inside was definitely a highlight for me as she never gives up Hattie Novak-5’8 G Novak plays within herself, she showed me that a few years ago when I caught her at Prime Time Nationals and over the summer with the Lady Thunder, she proved I was right yet her ability to score "in the flow" showed last night but she also showed she could create and take defenders in the one on one setting, either for the pull-up jumper or attacking the basket Parker McVay-5’6 McVay did a job on defense, played within herself, and just applied pressure on both ends as she showed she could the basket and battle for rebounds Pearson McVay-6’0 McVay wins my first ever UPSIDE award because she’s already at "the magic number’ of 6’0, she’s a freshman, I knew she was young and she’s still raw yet she’s also coached by one of the best players to ever come out of the Bryan/College Station area, [player_tooltip player_id="136328" first="Gia" last="Adams"] (Lamar) so the sky is the limit
