WCE 100 Camp: CA Stockrisers Pt. 4

With the high school basketball regular season in CA still quite far away, various grassroots events and camps have sprouted up to help take the place in the meantime. This past weekend, West Coast Elite hosted their Elite 100 camp in AZ. Several CA players were in attendance, and here’s a quick look at some of the players who raised their profile and you should be on the lookout for. <strong>1. Mari Somvichian - Oakland Tech 2023</strong> Somvichian is an elite shooter. She moves very well without the ball to get herself open at the three-point line. She’s got a quick release and can shoot with defenders rushing at her. Good corner three shooter. She’s also a good playmaker, she made an impact right away as a freshman point guard. She’s patient, steady, and sees the court very well. In transition and in the halfcourt, she’ll find the open player. <strong>2. [player_tooltip player_id="102694" first="Alayah" last="Flucus"] - Eastside College Prep 2021</strong> Flucus is a wing who is a solid presence in the paint as well. She makes her presence felt on the glass. She boxes out properly and rebounds with two hands. Works the offensive glass for second shot opportunities. She makes strong cuts and dives to the rim and is an athletic finisher. Nice midrange shot. She can handle the ball a little bit and put herself in good position to score, good slasher. <strong>3. Via Fonongaloa - Salesian 2022</strong> Fonongaloa has all the makings of a good post player. She’s physical and strong and can power her way up at the rim over the defense. She has good footwork in the paint and can seal off her defender. An imposing presence on the glass. While comfortable in the paint, she can shoot a little bit too. Defensively, she is an intimidating player inside. She contests well at the rim and protects the paint. <strong>4. Nevaeh Asiasi - Salesian 2022</strong> Asiasi is a shooting guard who has a little bit of playmaking to her game. She’s comfortable getting her own shot on the break or in the halfcourt. She sprints out in transition and she can shoot off the dribble. Good finisher at the rim. In the halfcourt, she moves the ball well and looks for open teammates. Good ball-handler who dribbles under control especially against defensive pressure. Good defender too.
