Union County’s Top Players Entering 2021 Season

Union County had a number of teams and players that made an impact in the 2019-20 season. Westfield took home the county title as the top seed, rolling past seventh-seeded Gov. Livingtson, 64-37, in the county final in late February. Let’s take a look at the top players in Union County this season going into the 2021 campaign. <strong>Chloe Kreusser, Westfield, Jr.</strong> – Kreusser will have a steady role for Westfield this season after averaging just under 10 points per game in her sophomore season. She had 13 double-figure games, also finishing with five double-doubles on the season. Kreusser was also third on the team in steals a season ago with 54. <strong>Madison Johnson, Union Catholic, Sr.</strong> – Johnson averaged 16.3 points per game and totaled 21 double-figure performances a season ago for a Union Catholic team that finished 19-7. She is great at driving to the rim and finishing with floaters or on the glass. Johnson can hit from the perimeter and in the mid-range game, and she can go coast-to-coast and finish at the rim through traffic. <strong>Olivia Lawlor, Summit, Jr.</strong> – Lawlor was productive for Summit as a sophomore with 15.3 points per game. She was forceful on both ends with 65 blocks and 206 rebounds. Some top performances included Hanover Park (32 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks), Chatham (12 points, 11 rebounds), Bernards (22 points, 14 rebounds), Johnson (22 points, 12 rebounds), New Providence (31 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks), Scotch Plains-Fanwood (19 points, 17 rebounds, 7 steals, 6 blocks, 5 assists), Johnson (18 points, 17 rebounds) and Madison (18 points, 10 rebounds). <strong>Meghan Lamanna, New Providence, So.</strong> -- Lamanna came on as a freshman and was solid for New Providence with 12.5 points per game. She knocked down 49 triples on the year, with five coming against Belvidere, finished with 99 rebounds and she had a season-high 28 points against Scotch Plains-Fanwood. <strong>Elizabeth McCaffery, Cranford, Sr.</strong> – McCaffery averaged just under 10 points per game on the season for Cranford. She had 14 double-figure games, including 22 against Ridgefield Park and 21 against Pope John. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159450" first="Maddison" last="Vaughn"], Roselle, Sr.</strong> – Vaughn averaged about 12 points per game and was a presence for Roselle on the glass with 10.2 rebounds per game. She totaled 14 double-doubles on the year and had 112 blocks on the season, including two double-digit block performances against Roselle Catholic (12) and Somerset Tech (11). She’ll be a force on both ends for Roselle once again this season in her senior year. <strong>Liyah Allen, Hillside, Sr.</strong> – Allen averaged 12.1 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game for Hillside a season ago. She was a consistent double-double threat, finishing with 17 in 2019-20.
