Saturday featured some really intriguing games, including top-ranked St. John Vianney and No. 3 Saddle River Day in a massive showdown. Paul VI and Montclair Immaculate also battled in a top-20 matchup. Here are the takeaways from the day’s action.
<strong>St. John Vianney Holds Its Top Ranking: </strong>St. John Vianney, the No. 1 team in the state, defeated third-ranked Saddle River Day, 63-53, and used a 23-13 fourth quarter to pull away after having to rally from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter. The duo of [player_tooltip player_id="134610" first="Katie" last="Hill"] and [player_tooltip player_id="134626" first="Madison" last="St. Rose"] were huge, as they combined for 45 of the team’s 63 points. Hill had nine rebounds and St. Rose had five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Saddle River Day saw double figures from [player_tooltip player_id="134628" first="Saniah" last="Caldwell"], Paulina Paris and Dakota Corey. Hill was able to score at the rim, and St. John Vianney adjusted to a blistering Saddle River Day press early on. St. Rose got it going in the fourth quarter, where she put in 12 of her 22 points.
<strong>Colonia is Putting A Nice Streak Together: </strong>Colonia won its sixth game in a row and got some revenge on North Brunswick with a 45-43 victory on Saturday. North Brunswick defeated Colonia by a 47-41 score on Jan. 28. Taylor Dercack had 12 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals and four assists for Colonia. [player_tooltip player_id="155450" first="Mattison" last="Chiera"] added 13 points for Colonia.
<strong>Ewing Stays Perfect: </strong>Behind a double-double from Joi Johnson of 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocks and 15 points from Rhian Stokes, Ewing moved to 6-0 after holding off Hopewell Valley, 52-47. Franki Gomez finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocks for Hopewell Valley. Ewing will meet Notre Dame, another unbeaten team, on Feb. 15.
<strong>New Providence Continues to Produce: </strong>New Providence improved to 6-0 following Saturday’s 48-35 win over Westfield. Grace Kinum and Meghan Lamanna led the way for the unbeaten team. Kinum had a nice all-around performance of 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. Lamanna put in a game-high 15 points in addition to five rebounds.
<strong>Paul VI Dominates Montclair Immaculate: </strong>Paul VI downed Montclair Immaculate, 70-46, and improved to 5-0 on the year. Paul VI raced out to a 20-4 lead after one quarter. [player_tooltip player_id="134645" first="Hannah" last="Hidalgo"] was incredible with 28 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Nile Miller and Sara McShea both hit double figures for the winners. Miller put in 13 points in addition to six rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks. McShea finished with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.
<strong>Schiller, Achter Both Finish With Double-Doubles in Ramapo Win: </strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134639" first="Madison" last="Schiller"] finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, five steals and four blocks and [player_tooltip player_id="155552" first="Lauren" last="Achter"] added 16 points and 10 rebounds in Ramapo’s 58-41 win over Ramsey. Ramapo improved to 6-0 this season.
