February Features: Lady Attack Elite 2022 National Team Preview

Lady Attack Elite is one of the best club basketball programs in the Charlotte area.  Here is a preview of their 2022 National team coached by Brian Morris.  Look for them to kick off their season at LBI March Madness in Charlotte, NC.

Jacquelyn DeJesse Jacquelyn DeJesse 5'5" | PG Chestnut Park | 2022 NC | Charlotte Christian | G

DeJesse uses her speed to be impactful on the court.  She can move quickly jumping into passing lanes of her opponents to grab steals.  When she gains possession, she pushes it up the court to score in transition.  She can certainly score in set offenses as well as she knows how to score from behind the three point line.  Her ball handling controls the tempo for her team as she knows when she can push it and when she needs to pull back.

Cady is a player who has shown a lot of strides in the right direction this past year growing as a post player.  Her length is certainly an asset on defense as she jumps into passing lanes causing deflections and grabbing steals.  She is known to cause blocks as well making it difficult for her opponents to score against her.  Her vision of the court allows her to get her teammates involved with passes, or she can see the floor in a way to show off the right moves in order for her to score.  She isn’t only a scorer from inside the paint, though, as she can certainly pull up a three point shot making her a threat from many areas of the court.

Nora Schroeder Nora Schroeder 5'11" | SF Charlotte Christian | 2022 NC | Charlotte Christian | F

Schroeder is one of the most consistent shot blockers I have seen play in Charlotte, and she is bringing those skills over to Lady Attack Elite.  She uses her height in other ways as well making it difficult for opponents to be effective anywhere near the paint.  As someone who follows shots, she is sure to grab rebounds as well.  Her offensive skill set includes her showing off her shot from all over the court including behind the arc.  She runs the floor well pushing the ball up the court herself scoring in transition.

Abriel Thrash | Arborbrook Christian | SF

Thrash is one of the most reliable players in her class.  She is constantly pushing the ball up the court, and she knows how to make plays even if you feel the play has broken down.  She can shoot the ball from downtown, and she can certainly drive it against contact.  Her vision of the court is evident with her decision making when handling the ball because she knows when to pull up for a jump shot, drive all the way to the basket, or dish the ball to her open teammate.  Her IQ is also evident on defense as she seems to telegraph what her opponents are going to try to do.

Katie Houpt | South Mecklenburg | G

Houpt is one of the more adaptable players I have seen this year as she knows how to adjust her movements on offense.  She uses the opposing defense to her advantage by finding the gaps.  She knows where to drive the ball to make the other team the most vulnerable.  She has a great ability of separating herself from her defender as well to be an effective teammate.  Her clutch shooting is evident as she can make jump shots or three point shots when her team needs them most.

Anna Phibbs | Arborbrook Christian | F

Phibbs is dominant in the paint.  Her ball handling and footwork make for an effective scorer in the paint.  She knows how to have her way when working herself to the basket.  That translates well to her defense as she causes stops with her blocks in the paint.  Opposing players are certainly going to have trouble scoring anywhere around her.

Eva Butler | Providence | G

Butler is one of the best defenders I have seen in Charlotte.  Her speed and agility makes it easy for her to grab steals coming out of nowhere, and she knows how to pick the pocket of her opponents trying to get by her.  On offense, she uses these steals to push the ball up the court for some transition points.  Her scoring isn’t limited to lay ups as she can certainly shoot from behind the arc.  She does well serving as a point guard controlling the tempo of the game, and she can slide over to the shooting guard position helping to run the plays and score.

Maddie Shannon | Charlotte Latin | F

Shannon is an active post player constantly moving around on both ends of the court.  On offense, she is finding the gaps in the defense in order for her to get the ball.  On defense, she is making her presence known jumping into passing lanes and bumping cutters to make sure they are not effective at scoring.  She shows that she is aware of where she is on the court in order to make the best move to score a basket.

Mary Spry | Jesse Carson | PF

Spry is a forward who uses every bit of her six foot frame to cause problems for her opponents.  She finds ways to sneak into the gaps on defense to show off her jump shot.  She can track the ball well especially after shots as she grabs rebounds.  Offensive rebounds frequently turn into points for her off of second chance opportunities.  Tracking the ball on defense translates well to her blocking shots.  Even when she is not the one stealing the ball, she runs the floor well making her presence known on fast breaks.

Monique Cepeda | Arborbrook Christian | F

Cepeda already has multiple offers under her belt, and something tells me she is just getting started.  She seems to be everywhere on the court grabbing steals or finding loose balls to gain possession.  On the offensive side of the ball, she is always ready to show off her shot, and she does so well from behind the three point line.  She follows shots and knows how to use her body to make her way in the paint to grab a rebound.  She does a good job seeing the floor making passes into her teammates, too.
