Continue ReadingIn a battle of Raccoon River foes, the visiting Carroll squad came out on top 51-47. They were in the lead for most of the night but fell behind a little in the second half. They brought it together to pull out the victory over the hosts, Boone. I detail the eight prospects that stood out the most to me below.
Carroll
Taylor Mohr – 5’8 PG – 2019
**6 points, 2 blocks**
Mohr struggled to get anything to fall at the rim but she did a really solid job of getting there tonight. She’s a player who loves to drive the ball, but her finishing was a little off tonight. Long guard who will stick on the ball at the next level. I think that she will be able to be a difference maker as she already knows how to get others involved and not press the issue too much. Good defender who plays aggressive without fouling.
Laura Sweeney – 5’4 SG – 2021
**17 points**
Sweeney started off slow, but got going in the second half. She shoots the ball really well as she knocked down three 3-pointers in this one. Most of her points did come at the line near the end of the game. Sweeney shoots the ball well off of the catch and loves to shoot it from the corner. Really like the aggressiveness that she plays with and I think that she has a future in college somewhere.
Ella Collison – 5’8 W/F – 2021
**13 points, 14 rebounds**
Really liked the game of Collison. I thought that she was one of the best rebounders I have seen all year, if not the best. She plays with a passion and a high motor for the game. She is well built and has a frame that will hold strength. She could turn into a really good post player who can dominate the game. Collison is able to take the ball off the bounce to the rim and I think that she will only get better in the future. She’s a very versatile player who could play three spots on the floor. Added quickness will take her game to the next level quickly.
Ashley Onken – 6′ C – 2020
**6 points, 4 rebounds**
Onken is the girl in the middle for Carroll and while she didn’t play a ton of minutes, she was effective when she was in the game. She’s a pretty solid player for Carroll who has the ability to score pretty well in the post. She has a high basketball IQ with the ability to play both inside and outside but didn’t really shoot it all that much. Her shooting form look pretty good and I think that she’ll be
Boone
Madalyn Danner – 5’7 PG – 2019
**12 points, 5 rebounds**
Danner didn’t have her best game in this one but she didn’t play that bad either. She’s a long guard who has the ability to play really solid defense and she rebounds the ball really well from the guard spot. Danner is a player who has the ability to be really solid and at the next level I think she will end up flourishing with her game. Advanced with the ball and a good passer who has the handling to stick on the ball.
Emma Dighton – 5’8 W – 2021
**27 points, 7 rebounds**
Dighton was a scoring machine in this game. She has the ability to get to the rim and score the ball but is also an excellent shooter from the outside. She can handle the basketball a little too which allows her to be on the ball if needed. A tough player who doesn’t shy away from contact. Good basketball IQ and sees the floor well. Really like the fluidity of her game as she makes things seem easy at times.
Katie Winter – 6′ F – 2020
**7 rebounds**
Winter is an intriguing player who didn’t show much offense in this one. She is a very strong post player but was just a little off on her touch around the rim tonight. I think she has a lot of potential and can see how in the future she will be able to be a difference maker. Thought that she played with a good motor and moved well without the ball. Just want to see her start to turn those close shots into points.
Kennedy Lein – 5’9 W – 2021
**9 points**
Lein came off the bench and played really well. She hit a few shots in the clutch and has a really good looking outside shot. I liked her ability to come in and make an impact right away as she was forced off the bench due to foul trouble. Rebounds the ball well and moves really well. I think she has the potential to play a guard spot at the next level but right now she’s more of a wing type.
