We will cover who you should watch for, the teams that could come out of nowhere, and of course, the bracket buster candidate. We will also list five players from each class that you need to keep an eye on throughout the bracket as they can really change the game in a hurry. The complete Region 5 bracket is posted below.

The Favorite
Montezuma
Montezuma’s lone loss this season came to North Linn, a top 2A team this season. Montezuma is a team that is well balanced and they have a lot of different players that can score the ball. They score 57.6 points a game and only allow 33.4 points a game. Montezuma is looking to get back to the State Championships and they have the team to do so. Their leading scorer is junior Shateah Wetering, an Iowa commit, who scores 18.4 points a game.
The Sleeper
Sigourney
This is an interesting team and I could see them pulling off an upset of Montezuma. With only two seniors on the team they are well set for the future, but don’t think they can’t get to Des Moines this year. They lost to Montezuma earlier this year, 26-24, and are looking for revenge. They have a tough draw and are going to have to win some tough games to get to play Montezuma in the region final. Sigourney is led by junior Morgan Stuhr, a player who is scoring 14.6 points a game.
The Outside Shot
Holy Trinity Catholic
Sitting at 13-6 this year, Holy Trinity Catholic could turn this region on its head. They have a lot of close losses and are very close to being 17-2 or 18-1. They haven’t played many teams in the region but they beat WACO in a landslide. Seniors Emily Box and Taylor Boeding lead them with 15.3 and 11.7 points a game respectively.
