What better way to start part 1 of the Newcomers to the 2022 Rankings than with where the game starts, at the 1 and here are some point guards that I added to the list

No. 45 [player_tooltip player_id="265533" first="Blake" last="Matthews"] – 5’6 Atascocita
She falls into so many of my sayings I’ve hashtagged over the years including #sizedontmatter because she can play. Her explosiveness on the offensive end impressed me when she was a freshman yet she has elevated her game like she elevates off the ground for the jumper or attacking the rim but she has SWB and that’s speed with the ball so if you run the floor, she can hit you on the money yet she has shown she can also control the tempo and with her vocal leadership, she makes those around her better

Handles the ball under pressure and understands how to run a team yet she can flip the switch and take games completely over as I witnessed over Livestream when she scored almost 65% of her team’s points in the playoffs yet it was the way she did it because with her assists to set teammates up, 80% of their offensive input was because of her. She can create her shot under pressure and her options are the mid to long-range jumper or attacking the rim yet she also can attack and dish, under control, and her dropping the stop and pop 3 in transition was something as she scored well over 30 points in her last playoff game this season
No. 75 [player_tooltip player_id="265535" first="Karina" last="Ortiz"]-5’7 Crystal City
I took a 5-hour one-way trip to get a different look because another one of my sayings that I hashtagged years ago, #talentiseverywhere is real, providing you know what you’re looking at and one thing I’ve always looked for while evaluating new players is if they do things instinctively and she definitely did that and then some. Her ability to see the floor just blew me away as she threw passes through traffic on the money but she handled the ball under pressure, got out of traps with ease, and when it was time to score, she did it numerous ways including mid to long-range but she also took defenders at will to finish after contact or make the pass off the dribble

No. 80 [player_tooltip player_id="265538" first="Aliya" last="Craft"]-5’4 Huntsville
I was given a heads up before I saw her and, well I added her so that says it all but actually it doesn’t because she too is a #sizedontmatter guard that just brings so much heat on the defensive end, wait, both ends that I was sweating. She is fast, #SWB and under control, and watching her blow by defenders on the break was something. She can shoot it from anywhere, she attacks and finishes acrobatically after contact but her ability to see the floor from anywhere, to play the passing lane as well as apply pressure on the defensive end were all very good
