The last semester for the Class of 2021 is starting to wind down, and with that said, the Spring rankings updates serve as our final look at the class as a whole. Our Top-250 is now home to 22 post prospects, and there are still a handful of quality ballplayers who remain uncommitted at this time. There are kids with strength, size, length, and skill. Below is a look at those 22 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis on a handful of uncommitted girls from this position group. Surely between now and graduation, a few colleges will benefit from commitments by some of them.
Top Uncommitted Centers
1. Amber Austin Amber Austin 6'0" | C Homestead | 2021 State IN , Homestead H.S. – I still think Amber is somewhat under the radar, because she is a strong athlete with a great frame, plus she is skillful and plays with a motor. Since I first saw her in 8th Grade, she has always been a nice high-post passer/scorer. She doesn’t do much off the bounce, but she can hit that 15-footer. She’ll both box out and pursue rebounds, plus she can defend physically or come out on the floor and trap/switch in ball-screen situations. I think she has a lot of intangible value.
2. Lauren Carie Lauren Carie 6'2" | C Vincennes Rivet | 2021 State IN , Vincennes Rivet H.S. – Lauren is a long, wiry strong, and very mobile/active post. I’ve seen her settle into the block and score with a variety of finishes either direction. But I’ve also seen her float around and make shots in the short-corner and mid-post areas of the floor. She can block/alter a lot of shots defensively, but she too does a nice job of sitting down and using her length to help defend the perimeter. I think she can come in and be a skillful ’5’ with good physical ability.
3. Chloee Thomas Chloee Thomas 6'1" | C Frankton | 2021 State IN , Frankton H.S. – Chloee is yet anther kid flying under the radar, but with her, I believe it’s because she hasn’t played grassroots basketball, and volleyball is still a likely option for college. She has a strong frame with broad shoulders, but she does have a little length, she runs the floor hard North/South, and she has some bounce to her. To me, she’s the type of kid who thrives in the Crossroads League, because she moves well, has solid hands and skill, plus she’s strong and plays tough.
Additional Uncommitted Centers Who Stand Out
Francisca Galicia Francisca Galicia 6'5" | C South Bend Washington | 2021 State IN , South Bend Washington H.S. – I think following Washington’s run to the State Finals, Francisca’s story of being a late-bloomer plucked from the pep band has reached all corners of the state. She has a strong frame, but she plays with a great motor, and she runs the floor fairly well North/South. She has good hands, is an active rebounder, blocks a ton of shots, and she’s starting to finish much better inside.
Charsan McCory Charsan McCory 6'2" | C East Central | 2021 State IN , East Central H.S. – Charsan has a unique combination of size, strength, and skill. She has a powerful frame and broad shoulders, she can bully defenders inside around the block, but she also has some touch around the perimeter and can knock down the occasional 3-pointer. She has good hands, solid finishing moves, and she’ll play hard, especially changing ends of the floor.
Lauren Pollock Lauren Pollock 6'3" | C LaPorte | 2021 State IN , LaPorte H.S. – Lauren is one of the more intriguing posts still available. She has gotten better each year, and the combination of her height and tremendous length, plus her ability to move around the floor are great qualities for the next level. She has always been a shot-blocker and reasonably solid rebounder, but now she’s starting to score it better and player stronger inside.
