[player_tooltip player_id="12714" first="Mallory" last="Heyer"] is a beast, and we mean that in the nicest possible way. Heyer has been an impact varsity player since 2017, but never has she been more effective than over the past few weeks as the Chaska junior led her team to the 2021 Minnesota High School AAAA state championship. That series of performances in March and April, along with a season of excellence overall, has earned Heyer selection as the Prep Girls Hoops AAAA Player of the Year.
Mallory has one of the biggest motors we have seen. In addition to her rather substantial bag of tricks, it is Heyer’s relentless drive to overpower opponents that sets her apart. She used that approach to have the game of her life in Chaska’s defeat of Hopkins in the state semifinals. She simply would not be denied. Mallory has one more season of high school basketball before moving on to the University of Minnesota, and we’re going to savor every minute of it.
As the Player of the Year, of course, she leads our selections for the Prep Girls Hoops All-State teams, where she is joined by her Chaska teammate, sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="108301" first="Kennedy" last="Sanders"], who also had the game of her life against the Royals and proved this year that she is one of Minnesota's very best point guards. Speaking of Hopkins, that is the home of our third selection, guard [player_tooltip player_id="12713" first="Amaya" last="Battle"]. Amaya offered up consistent excellence throughout the season as she parlayed her subtle approach to the game into tremendous success.
She’s joined by Wayzata junior [player_tooltip player_id="12715" first="Mara" last="Braun"], another University of Minnesota commit, who personifies grace, athleticism and touch, and has an insatiable desire to win. The final First Team All-State selection is Farmington senior post [player_tooltip player_id="13045" first="Sophie" last="Hart"], a giant center who simply cannot be stopped inside. Hart changes every game she participates in, as opponents are forced to build their game plan around stopping Sophie.
The talent level of the AAAA All-State Team this year is remarkable. That’s why our honorable mention list runs so deep. I mean, who are you going to leave out? The entire First and Second Team are either Division 1 commits or hold D1 offers. Among the honorable mentions, 24 players also fall into one of those two categories. That’s right, 34 Division 1 players! As we said, it’s a strong field. One player you won’t find on the list deserves a special mention. That would by [player_tooltip player_id="57081" first="Jordyn" last="Lamker"] of Maple Grove, a University of St. Thomas commit who would have been a lock to join this group but was limited to just seven games due to a season-ending injury.
Let’s meet the entire team.
