The High School has concluded, and players are transitioning to the travel season. We are taking a look back at the state’s top scorers for the 2020-21 High School season.
2021 Erin Turral Erin Turral 5'6" | CG FAMU DRS | 2021 State #77 Nation FL (Florida A&M HS) 5’3 Guard
Simply put Erin Turral Erin Turral 5'6" | CG FAMU DRS | 2021 State #77 Nation FL has been a scoring machine for her entire high school career both at Florida A&M HS as well as Lincoln HS. Turral is a 5’3 Guard who is signed to play at Stony Brook. She averaged an impressive 28.8 PPG, 146/303 48%, 35% from 3 with 45 made 3s in 13 games. She scored 37 points three times this season including v Chiles on January 27 on an impressive 15/22 from the field and then again on February 2nd v Rocky Bayou Christian on 1/9 from the field. The 28.8 points per game was # 1 in the state of Florida and Turral comes in as Florida’s top scorer!
2021 Whitney Rush Whitney Rush 5'7" | CG East Lake | 2021 State FL (East Lake HS) 5’8 Guard
Rush finished # 2 in Florida in scoring just behind Turral, coming in at 25.7 PPG scoring 642 points on the season in 25 games accumulating the 2nd most of points for the season in the state of Florida behind Paige Clausen from Barron Collier. Rush scored in a multitude of ways – from 3, from 2, and at the free throw line. Rush’s 209 made FTs in 25 games, for an average of 8 made free throws per game were particularly impressive. On the season, Rush had two 40+ point games, 2 more 30+ point games, and scored an impressive 20 points or higher in 22/25 games this season and scored in double digits all 25 games! Her 41 points vs Tampa Catholic on December 2nd was a season high and accounted for 63% of her teams scoring that night, leading her team to a 65-57 win. The 5’8 left-handed combo guard is signed to attend Missouri S&T.
2022 Brianna Erickson (Pinellas Park) Guard
Erickson comes in at # 3 in scoring in the state of Florida after averaging 25.3 PPG, 37 made 3s and 84 made FTs in 12 games. In a shortened COVID season, Erickson did her best to put her Pinellas Park team on her back and lead them to victory. Playing most of the season with just 5 players, Erickson’s 25.3 points per game accounted for 54% of her teams scoring. Her best game of the year was a 38-point effort on January 28, leading her team to a 51-49 victory over Osceola.
2024 Tatiana Matthews (Dunnellon HS)
Matthews comes in as one of the youngest players on Florida’s Top Scorers list after averaging 25.0 PPG for Dunnellon High School. She reached double digits in 13/14 games this season and dropped 30+ points in 4 games. She particularly played well vs Santa Fe, as she scored 36 points in their first meeting on January 26, leading them to a 71-57 win and then followed that up just a week later with 34 points on February 2nd, leading Dunnellon to a 64-43 win.
2021 Esther Jackson (Hernando Christian Academy) 5’7 Wing
Jackson was Miss consistent this season averaging 24.9 PPG and shooting an impressive 140/184 for 76% from the field and 72% from 3! Now that is some efficiency! Her high for the season was vs Foundation Christian Academy where she scored 24 points on 12/13 from the field, shooting 92% and leading her team to the 71-46 win. Throughout the season, she shot 100% (7/7) vs Seven Rivers Christian on 1/29 and had 2 more games shooting 90% or better (Cambridge Christian and Lakeside Christian) and more 3 games where she shot 80% or better (Seven Rivers Christian, Springstead, and Academy of the Lakes). Where many of the state’s top scorers are doing it off a lot of shots, Jacksons totals are particularly impressive based on how many points she scored this season on such few shots!
2022 Na’Haviya Paxton (Columbia HS) Guard
Columbia finished the season 13-7 averaging 54 points as a team. Paxton accounted for nearly 50% of her teams scoring, averaging 24.8 points per game on, shooting 181/365 from the field for 50%, and made 125 free throws in 20 games. Much of Paxton scoring was when her team needed her the most. Columbia had four wins this season by 1 point where Paxton scored 27, 25, 24, and 7 points and they had two more wins by 5 or less where she scored 35 and 30 points.
2023 Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL (Oakleaf HS) 5’8 Guard
Scott is one of the nation’s top prospects for good reason as she can drop a bucket from just about anywhere on the court. Her offensive game is versatile and diversified as she doesn’t get it done in just one way. She averaged 23.4 PPG by making 89 3-pointers and 142 made FTs in 25 games accumulating 585 points off 17 shots per game. Here 585 points were 3rd in the state for points on the season behind Paige Clausen and Whitney Rush Whitney Rush 5'7" | CG East Lake | 2021 State FL . Scott scored in double digits 24/25 games this season with a career high of 43 points vs Orange Park in December. I cannot imagine Orange Park was a big fan of watching Scott walk in the gym as she dropped 35 on them just several weeks later in January averaging 39 points per game vs them in 2 games.
2024 Autum Brown (Winter Haven Christian) Wing/Forward
Simply put Brown was really really good this season. The Freshman dropped 23.3 PPG shooting 149/307 for 49% from field with 115 made FTs and shot 79% from FT line. Her best 2 game stretch of the season was January where she went off for 31 points vs Life Christian Academy and then followed that up 6 days later with 41 points vs Life Christian Academy again! Brown reached double digit points in all 19 games this season and accumulated an impressive 443 points in her Freshman year.
2025 Delaney Baker (Meadowbrook Academy) 5’8 Wing
Baker is the youngest player on the top scoring list, playing Varsity as an 8th grader for Meadowbrook Academy. She scored 23.1 points per game, shooting 134/243 for 55% from field with made 80 FTs in 16 games shooting 73% from FT line. You did not want to see Meadowbrook on the schedule in early December as during a five game stretch between December 3-14, Baker averaged 27 points per game scoring 32, 31, 31, 22, and 21 points in those 5 games!
2021 Paige Clausen (Barron Collier) 6’0 Wing
Clausen wraps up the Top 10 scorers in Florida after averaging 22.7 PPG on 281/557 from field shooting 50% from field to go along with 99 made FTs. Although Clausen 22.7 points per game are # 10 on the list, her 680 total points in 30 games was # 1 in the state for cumulative points in the season. She helped lead Barron Collier to an impressive 22-8 record by finding ways to get to the rim and scoring in the paint. While Clausen is a skilled and versatile player, she relied heavily on scoring in the paint for a bulk of her scoring, with 77% of her scoring being 2 point field goals.
