In one of the last tournaments before the high school season gets going in Oregon, we saw a collection of talented players from various club teams in the scene. McKenzie Hirsch McKenzie Hirsch 5'11" | SF Crater | 2022 State OR is a new face for NW Select White who has made instant impact as a team player who can score from all over the paint. Lainey Spear Lainey Spear 6'2" | PF Beaverton | 2023 State OR is a highly intuitive forward who makes splashes all over the floor on both ends of it. Zoe Borter Zoe Borter 6'0" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR is a tough guard who continues to make lasting memory on the floor as a bold scorer. Rhyan Mogel Rhyan Mogel 5'10" | SF Clackamas | 2023 State OR is the high energy player who has been the key for NW Select Black whereas Halle Hageman Halle Hageman 5'6" | SG Mountainside | 2022 State OR is the pacemaker and beat of the drum. Dani Starr Dani Starr 6'1" | SG Sheldon | 2022 State OR is already known as an eclectic scorer and looks to continue that trend.
McKenzie Hirsch McKenzie Hirsch 5'11" | SF Crater | 2022 State OR 2022 5’10” SF NW Select White – Hirsch has settled in with her new team quite nicely, as this was merely her second tournament with Select but she has shown her ability to contribute immediately. She had 16 points in one game over the weekend and has shown that she is a blue collar type of player who can score seamlessly at the mid-range level.
Lainey Spear Lainey Spear 6'2" | PF Beaverton | 2023 State OR 2023 6’2” PF Clutch Rose – Lainey was already a fluid forward with the ability to dominate the game inside and out. Now she has the ability to stretch the floor and knock down the jumper from alongside the perimeter. A match-up nightmare who can post up smaller opponents as well as take it to the rim with a quick first step. Makes a lot of up and down plays from baseline to baseline.
Zoe Borter Zoe Borter 6'0" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR 2023 6’0” SF Clutch Rose – Borter is continually showing that grit and physicality is not going out of style any time soon. The Beaverton guard is a natural rebounder with her size and awareness and offensively has a knack to getting to the rim and foul line. She can also knock down from alongside the arc. Make no mistake, her game revolves around being a tough workhorse.
Rhyan Mogel Rhyan Mogel 5'10" | SF Clackamas | 2023 State OR 2023 5’11” SF NW Select Black – It is no secret that Mogel is amongst Select’s formula for success. She is increasing her perimeter skills as a knockdown shooter in addition to being a relentless high motor player on both ends of the floor. Rebounds exceptionally well and has a nose to get to the basket. Offensive game is looking more and more complete to being a three-level scorer.
Halle Hageman Halle Hageman 5'6" | SG Mountainside | 2022 State OR 2022 5’6” SG NW Select Black – Hageman has been a consistent cog for NW Select Black as she knows how to accelerate the game when the ball is in her hands in a natural yet invigorating manner. She both slows down and speeds the game up in her mind and the court, which has been difficult for others to deal with. Can knock down the floater in the lane and the transition three.
Dani Starr Dani Starr 6'1" | SG Sheldon | 2022 State OR 2022 6’1’ SF Oregon Elite Navy – Not much else can be said about Starr, who is a creative and highly skilled scorer. She gets to her spots in a hurry and drills them with great efficiency. She can also post up in the paint and knocks them down easily from the arc. An aggressive defender whose length and aggressiveness stifles her opponents. Lots in her offensive repertoire and makes it look easy when the ball is in her hands.
