We want to showcase as much talent as the Dakotas have to offer us, so we are presenting some of the top-performing players that don’t get a lot of shine in the limelight, but work just as hard as an all-stater. So sit back, relax and enjoy these 25 athletes that are sure to be on everyone’s radar come next winter.
Jaycee Richter Jaycee Richter 5'6" | PG Linton/HMB | 2022 State ND – Linton HMB – (5’6/PG/2022) – Richter is a true point guard. She has an above-average basketball IQ with a great-looking jump shot and quick first step. She averaged 15 points, 4.7 rebounds and distributed 76 assists this year. She returns for her senior year on a stacked Linton team that will look to clinch state birth.
Kennedy Harter Kennedy Harter 6'0" | PF Kidder County | 2023 State ND – Kidder County – (6’0/C/2023) – Harter is a long athletic big that can play the 3-5 spot. She uses her length to disrupt passing lanes and opposing post scorers. She can run the floor like a deer and finishes at the rim with ease. If she can develop a good 15-17 foot jump shot she’ll be a true test for a lot of teams. She averaged 14 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 steals a game this year.
Teagan Erberle – NapoleonG/S – (5’7/PF/2024) – Erberle was the heart and soul of this year’s Imperials team. She was a big reason they made a regional appearance and had one of the best years in a while. She’s a freshman who plays like a senior on the court averaging a double-double at 15 points and 12.4 rebounds per contest. She’ll be on a lot of coaches’ radars come next season as she develops as more of a threat on the court.
Mataeya Mathern Mataeya Mathern 6'0" | SG Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2024 State ND – Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier – (5’9/SG/2024) – Mathern is an explosive guard that can play the 1-4 position. She has a deadly first step in blowing past defenders and a killer hop step finish. On the defensive end, she’s a real menace in deflecting passes and the offensive flow of the game. She averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds and had 90 steals on the year.
Laikyn Roney Laikyn Roney 5'10" | SF Oakes | 2023 State ND – Oakes – (5’8/PF/2023) – Roney can play inside and out, making her not the traditional stretch forward in wanting to shoot the ball, but as well can play bully ball down low. She can flat out score the ball as well dropping 24 points this year against Linton HMB. She averaged 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. It’ll be interesting what she does next year as Oakes’s go-to player with Sadie Hansen Sadie Hansen 5'10" | SF Oakes | 2021 State ND ’s graduation.
