All across the state, prep girls basketball is loaded with great shooting guards. Here’s a look at five of them: [player_tooltip player_id="137288" first="Gracelyn" last="Nez"] is a 5-8 shooting guard for Flagstaff High School. She also plays for her grassroots team, Flagstaff Hoops. The Lady Eagles finished the 2020-2021 season with an overall 17-3 record, 11-0 in their division. Flagstaff lost to Sahuaro in the state tournament, 62-56. As a junior, Gracelyn averaged 16.6 points per game, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. In three full varsity seasons, she has played in 72 games averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. She is also averaging 47% from the floor during that time. Gracelyn, as a freshman, was selected by the Arizona Daily Star as Girls Basketball Athlete of the Year. She was second-team All 4A Conference as a sophomore and first-team All-Conference this past season by AZpreps365. Her per 32-minute points average is number one in her division (22.2). Also an outstanding volleyball player, Gracelyn has these three-year statistics: 234 sets, 973 kills, 93 blocks, 574 digs, and 92 aces. She will go over the 1,000 career scoring mark soon into her senior year. With many returning players the Lady Eagles should be ready for a strong playoff run in 2021-2022. [player_tooltip player_id="259205" first="Trinity" last="Flores"] is a 5-3 shooting guard who plays for Williams Field High School in Gilbert. She transferred from Campo Verde earlier in the year which caused her to miss half of the season. She played in 10 games for the Blackhawks, averaging 15.0 points per game to go along with 2.3 assists and 2.9 steals. Williams Field went 11-6 overall and 5-3 in their conference. They lost to Millennium in the state playoffs, 50-41. Trinity’s best game of the year was against Washington High School when she exploded for 29 points to go along with four assists and three steals. She also had 22 points and six steals in a 65-24 rout of Higley. She made honorable mention on the Arizona Republic’s All-Arizona girls team as well as honorable mention to the 360AZ All-Academic Girls Team with a weighted GPA of 3.64. Playing for Head Coach Taura Gardner, Trinity is a super quick guard and scrappy defender. She can all get to the basket and shoot. As she heads into her senior year, she has improved as a player every year of high school. [player_tooltip player_id="214598" first="Kamea" last="Letcher"] is a 5-9 shooting guard who plays for Desert Vista High School in Scottsdale. She also plays for Zone 6 - Junior, her grassroots team. Last season the Lady Wolves finished with an overall 4-10 record and 2-6 in their division, the 5A Northeast Valley. Kamea averaged 10.8 points per game in 2021, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 steals. In February, against Sunrise Mountain, she had 15 points and 5 rebounds, and in March, against Arcadia, she had 32 points, including 9 three-pointers, and four rebounds. Between January 10, 2020, and March 4, 2021, Kamea was selected by Max Preps, Player of the Game on five different occasions. In three years totaling 41 games, Kamea has seen her scoring average rise from 2.1 as a freshman, to 7.6 as a sophomore, to 10.8 last year. Her older sister, Tajanae, also played for the Lady Wolves. Her father owns the 360 Hoops Fitness and Instructional facility and is a personal trainer. Alicia Sanchez, her head coach, also oversees women’s fitness at 360 Hoops fitness. Kamea, now approaching her senior year, is ready for a breakout season. [player_tooltip player_id="214604" first="Anneliese" last="Felix"] is a 5-5 shooting guard for Sunnyside High School. She also plays for her club team, AZ Select Tucson. In 2021, Sunnyside finished 11-6 and 6-0 in their division. She averaged 8.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per contest. In three years a as player for Sunnyside, Anneliese averaged 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in a total of 69 games. She was awarded Player of the Game a total of 13 separate times from November, 2018 to March 2021. Last March, the Lady Blue Devils lost to Gilbert in the playoffs. Anneliese plays for head coach Justin Delgado and the Lady Blue Devils. She will be competing in the ’Summer Clash’ of area high schools on June 4-5 at Skyline Prep High School. She is considered a scoring threat at all three levels of offensive play - driving and shooting for two points, hitting shots beyond the arc, and as a free throw shooter. She is also a member of the Sunnyside track and field team and should be ready for an outstanding senior season. [player_tooltip player_id="214603" first="Alexandra" last="Key"] is a 5-8 shooting guard who plays for Dobson High School in Mesa. A recent transfer from Bella Vista College Prep, she also plays for AimHigh Elite Athletics, her club team. She was a three-sport varsity player during her freshman and sophomore years combining basketball with cross country in the fall and track and field in the spring. In track, her specialty is the 1,600 meters a well as the 4 x 800-meter relay. Alex is also a member of the Future Farmers of America. Dobson finished 15-3 last year and 7-2 in their division.
