There are four elite prep girls basketball players in the class of 2022 that are six feet or taller. Here’s a profile of each one: [player_tooltip player_id="36791" first="Kennedy" last="Basham"] is a six-foot-seven center for PHH Prep. She also plays for her grassroots team, Arizona Select. One of the nation’s top-recruited centers, she transferred from Pinnacle High School last December. While at Pinnacle, Kennedy led her team to two straight 6A semifinals before losing. In her last season at Pinnacle, she averaged 17.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per game, the second-best in the state. Her PHH Prep Head Coach Milee Karre had this to say about kennedy. "Having scholarship offers from everywhere, she could have stayed put but her desire to want to get better and improve is what lead her here." PHH Prep finished as the national champion for girls with an overall 40-3 record. Kennedy is rated #28 in ESPN’s class of 2022. She has spent the off-season modeling and adding muscle to her lithe physique. She has also improved her outside spot-up jumper and ball-handling skills instead of relying on her post moves. One scout had this to say about her game: "Her ability to protect the rim, hit the three-ball. and play with her back to the basket sets her apart." She has had double-digit offers from colleges, but, to date, has not made a commitment. Kennedy is also an outstanding volleyball player having played for two years while at Pinnacle. In two seasons she had 118 kills and 81 total blocks. She starts her senior year at PHH Prep later this summer. [player_tooltip player_id="137278" first="Saniyah" last="Neverson"] is a six-foot-one point forward for PHH Prep. She also plays for her grassroots team, Arizona Select. A recent transfer from Valley Vista, she led the Monsoon to the 6A State Championship in 2020 as they beat Hamilton Chandler in the title game. As a sophomore, Valley Vista went 28-3 and she averaged 13.5 points per game along with 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 steals. As a freshman, Saniyah averaged 7.5 points per game and her two-year average at Valley Vista included - over 26 games - 8.0 points and 9,0 rebounds per game. Saniyah transferred to PHH Prep in the fall of 2020. One scout referred to her as..." having elite hands while finishing around the basket. She is able to guard multiple positions and is a player that college coaches will want to get involved with." With more college offers to come, she has received a scholarship offer from the University of Hartford. This summer, playing for her grassroots team, Saniyah has competed in a number of the Nike Tournament of Champions events. Another scout had this to say about her game: "She has the softest pair of hands. She also has great positioning skills as a rebounder and can guard anyone in the backcourt or the paint. She is also one of the best passing forwards in the state and can also spread the floor with her outside jumper." Saniyah should have an outstanding senior season as she gets ready for the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="259200" first="Jayla" last="Scott"] is a six-foot-one forward for Vista Grande High School in Casa Grande. Captain of the basketball team, she averaged 20.4 points per game last season along with 12.6 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. The Lady Spartans finished just 7-8 and 4-4 in the 4A Black Canyon Conference. Last March she had a triple-double (points, rebounds, and blocks) in a 64-47 win over Cortez. In three years at Vista Grande - a total of 68 games, Jayla has seen her scoring average increase each year (it was 6.0 as a freshman, 11.9 as a sophomore, and 20.4 this past winter as a junior). Over the 2019 and 2020 seasons, she won the Player of the Game a total of 12 different times as awarded by Max Preps. Jayla was Co-Offensive Player of the Year in her conference and First Team All-Region. With 789 career points, she should become a 1,000 point scorer sometime during her senior season. Her Head Coach Ryan Barrett had this to say about Jayla. "She can do more than just play in the paint. She can play almost any position and will occasionally bring the ball up the floor. Jayla has taken her game to another level. She can shoot, attack the basket, and bring the ball up the floor." She is also an outstanding volleyball player with 93 kills and 54 solo blocks over a two-year period. Scholarship offers are beginning to pour in as Jayla gets ready for her final season with the Lady Spartans. [player_tooltip player_id="259201" first="Samantha" last="Lyle"] is a six-foot-two forward for Saguaro High School in Scottsdale. Last season the Lady Sabercats finished the season with an overall 10-9 record and 3-5 in the 4A Desert Sky Division. Samantha averaged 17.4 points a game along with 10.0 rebounds and 1.75 steals. She also hit on 59% of her shots from the floor and is currently ranked as the eighth-best power forward in the state for the class of 2022. In February and March of this past season, she was named Player of the Game by Max Preps on three different occasions. Saguaro lost in the state tournament last March to ALA-Queen Park although Samantha closed the season with a double-double (27 points and 10 rebounds). In February, she had back-to-back double-doubles in two wins. In one game she had 30 points and 11 rebounds and in the other, 18 and 15. She was also named to the 4A Desert Sky First Team. With her senior year approaching, she is ready for a breakout season.
