With the high school basketball season just around the corner, it is important to take a look back at some of the standout performers of the 2020-2021 - 6A Division in Arizona. Each team is full of talent and has some of the top players in the state returning to play for another year. If you are a girl’s basketball fan, this group will not disappoint. Below are a few of the top returning points-per-game leaders from last season that are sure to put on another show for the Grand Canyon State in just a few short months. [player_tooltip player_id="65619" first="Ashiian" last="Hunter"] - Junior - Mesa HS - 20.9 PPG The Arizona 6A player with the most points scored last season along with scoring the most points per game, [player_tooltip player_id="65619" first="Ashiian" last="Hunter"] was unstoppable, even as a sophomore. With an impressive 20.9 PPG, Hunter helped her team towards their 8-2 conference record and 13-5 overall record on the year. Scoring 377 points throughout the 2020-2021 basketball season, she exceeds the national average in points-per-game scored by other players her age. If Ashiian performs the way she did as an underclassman in the upcoming months, I think it will be safe to say we will see her on this list again next year. [player_tooltip player_id="138098" first="Khamil" last="Pierre"] - Junior - Perry HS - 17.3 PPG Khamil is an athletic, six-foot-two, combo guard that knows the game of basketball. She can get to the hole through traffic and shoots 54% once she gets to the free-throw line. Scoring 17.3 points per game, Pierre had a total of 312 points for the Perry Pumas throughout her sophomore season. During week 7, she was awarded the "Top Performer of the Week - Arizona High School Basketball" for her outstanding showing against Xavier Prep. After a great summer getting better with her travel team, Arizona Elite, I expect Khamil will be back and ready for some good competition come the Fall. [player_tooltip player_id="73478" first="Mackenzie" last="Shivers"] - Senior - Mesa HS - 15.3 PPG Returning for her senior season, Mackenzie is back to play point guard for the last time for the Jackrabbits in the fall. Last season she lead her team to an overall record of 13-5, averaging 15.3 PPG and 276 points total. She was awarded MaxPreps Player of the Game in January for her outstanding performance of 23 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 6 blocks at Red Mountain High School. As a solid competitor on both ends of the floor, Shivers plays hard every minute that she is in the game. I am looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes this season! Lilly Mayz - Senior - Mountain View HS - 14.9 PPG Lilly has made the number four spot on our list of top returning points-per-game leaders averaging 14.9 PPG last season. Over the course of 15 games, she scored 223 points pushing her team through the year. This five-foot-nine point guard has helped the Mountain View Toros over the last couple of years and she is stepping back on the high school court for the last time in the Fall. With her stats in points, assists, steals, and rebounds all exceeding the national average, Mayz is a player to watch for in the 2021-2022 season. [player_tooltip player_id="205643" first="Aniyah" last="Riddell"] - Sophomore - Mountain Pointe HS - 14.7 PPG Scoring a total of 220 points for the 2021-2022 basketball season for the Mountain Pointe Pride, Freshman, [player_tooltip player_id="205643" first="Aniyah" last="Riddell"] was a rockstar for her team. As a six-foot-tall center, Aniyah averaged 14.7 points per game and an impressive 12.5 rebounds per game over the year. With a high-scoring game of 28 points against Corona del Sol in February, she was awarded MaxPreps Player of the Game. Riddell went on to be awarded this nine more times in her freshman season. The future is bright for this youngster!
