With the high school basketball season just around the corner, it is important to take a look back at some of the standout performers of the 2020-2021 – 6A Division in Arizona. Each team is full of talent and has some of the top players in the state returning to play for another year. If you are a girl’s basketball fan, this group will not disappoint. Below are a few of the top returning points-per-game leaders from last season that are sure to put on another show for the Grand Canyon State in just a few short months.
[player_tooltip player_id="214600" first="Kelsey" last="Ericksen"] - Senior - Shadow Ridge HS - 12.3 PPG
Ericksen finished off her junior season for the Shadow Ridge Stallions as a captain, scoring a total of 222 points and an impressive 12.3 points per game. Playing point guard/shooting guard, Kelsey is coming back for her final year in the Arizona high school basketball scene with a solid career on her shoulders. She earned the MaxPreps Player of the Game award seven different times during the 2020-2021 season showing exactly why she has made the top returning PPG leaders list. This talented veteran will be one to pay attention to this year for the Stallions.
[player_tooltip player_id="214586" first="Nyese" last="Jones"] - Senior - Westwood HS - 12.3 PPG
Captain for the Westwood Lady Warriors, [player_tooltip player_id="214586" first="Nyese" last="Jones"] helped lead her team to a successful overall 16-4 record for the 2020-2021 basketball season. With an average of 12.3 PPG, she stood out above the rest through her ability to simply score the ball. She shot 50% or higher in all of the first four games of the year, with 15+ points in three out of the four. Jones is ranked 25 by MaxPreps AZ for her age division and I believe will continue to impress us all during her senior season.
[player_tooltip player_id="214698" first="Myna" last="Johnson"] - Senior - Cibola HS - 12.2 PPG
Averaging 12.3 points per game during her junior season for the Cibola Lady Raiders, #5 [player_tooltip player_id="214698" first="Myna" last="Johnson"] is a five-foot-six guard that can get the job done from anywhere on the court. Scoring a total of 183 points for the year, she showed to be a reliable teammate to her peers and coaches. With her stats all above the national average, Johnson is one to watch during her final high school basketball season. The Lady Raiders finished off the year with an overall record of 13-4 and have the potential for another winning season in the fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="137294" first="Kamiyah" last="Hurd"] - Senior - Desert Vista HS - 12.2 PPG
To finish off the list of Top Returning Points-Per-Game Leaders from the 2020-2021 basketball season, [player_tooltip player_id="137294" first="Kamiyah" last="Hurd"] will bring us home averaging 12.2 PPG and a total of 122 points over the year. This five-foot-nine, left-handed, power forward is bringing her talents back to Desert Vista for her grand finale in the Arizona high school basketball scene. As a powerful player on both ends of the floor, Hurd is able to battle with whoever is necessary to make sure that her team has the best look possible. She makes it tough on the person guarding her because she really uses her size to block someone out and get the rebound. Averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, Kamiyah really makes her presence known down low. Looking forward to what she has to offer this year!
