A great deal of that senior class was on hand in Myrtle Beach this past weekend at the Rhodes Sports Center for this year’s Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Expo. Approximately 80 participants arrived for the weekend’s festivities and there was plenty of noteworthy basketball that took place.
Those attending had the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of college coaches. Here is a look at a few more from the Class of 2022 that got our attention.
Mazari Bennett Mazari Bennett 5'2" | PG Woodmont | 2022 State SC – Woodmont HS – When looking at reasons for why the Wildcats concluded the 2020-21 season with a 14-5 record, look no further than Bennett. She will definitely give a team plenty of scoring as well as a great deal of assists with the proficient passes she can make. She is quick on her feet and she particularly displays this with her defensive footwork as well as how she gets out in transition. Offensively, her skillset includes the ability to drain 3-pointers. Bennett has no issues as well with going through defenders and to the basket. She has improved over the years with experience.
Tonya Williams Tonya Williams 5'4" | SG Socastee | 2022 State SC – Socastee HS – Williams was another one of many who did not have far to go to get to the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Expo given where her current stomping grounds are. Or … should we say, her current hooping grounds. Williams is another one of many who has seen gradual improvement as she has become more experienced with the high school game. She will give a team offensive production, but also will pass and put her teammates and great position to score as well. Just as she is likely to dish the rock out for her team, she is also as likely to take said ball away from the opposing team with the number of steals she compiles.
Nykeriasia Coleman – Lancaster HS – Coleman was one of the Palmetto State standouts Prep Girls Hoops featured from Carolina Top 100 in Concord, North Carolina from earlier in the month. Coleman runs the floor exceptionally well and also has a knack for shooting 3-point shots. She makes things difficult for any opponent with the ball in their hands and can switch who she plays defense against with regularity. Make a mistake against Coleman on defense and the ball will likely end up in her hands, which sets herself up well for potential transition scenarios. Coleman will also draw contact which will put her at the free throw line.
Kennedi McLean Kennedi McLean 6'1" | C Carolina Forest | 2022 State SC – Carolina Forest HS – Similar to Williams, she too did not have far to go to get to the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Expo. She listed as a forward and it is a definite advantage for any team to have someone at six feet who plays the three or four. McLean particularly excels on the defensive side of the ball with how many blocks she compiles and the rebounds she will certainly collect. She will also get opponents to commit turnovers and have the ball go in the direction of her Panthers. She will give a team high percentage shots with her back initially to the basket. McLean’s senior season awaits with the burgundy and black.
