Players to Watch: Metro Classic Conference

As the season grows closer we point our attention back to Southeast Wisconsin at the Metro Classic. A season there were two teams who finished 15-1 in conference Martin Luther and Racine Lutheran. A lot of the teams at the top have the ability to beat each other any given night. A good example of this is the regional final between Racine Lutheran and third-placed Dominican, where Dominican came out as regional champs. This conference looks to be just as interesting as it was a season ago. [player_tooltip player_id="262986" first="Jayden" last="Hill"]-5’8 G-’22-Racine St. Joseph: Hill is a very peculiar scorer when it comes to box score stats. She was a high-level scorer compared to her competition in the conference. Scoring over 16 points a game a season ago the most interesting part about her is her shooting percentages. Her shooting slash went 34/40/55, which is 34% from the field, 40% from three, and 55% from the free-throw line. With her shooting splits it’s one of the weirdest ones I’ve come across. Even with that weirdness, she rebounds at a high level for a guard pulling down 7.5 rebounds a game, and earning close to four steals a game makes her a player who can be the class of the Metro Classic. [player_tooltip player_id="209603" first="Keona" last="McGee"]-5’7 G-’24-Dominican: The Metro Classic has seen a mass exodus of talent this season due to the graduation of a talented senior class. McGee has the potential to make that leap to being a Player of the Year candidate. She had a good freshman campaign a season, which earned her a first-team all-conference. As she continues to grow as a player it will be interesting to see where her career takes her. Ava Hoppert-5’7 G-’23-Martin Luther: Hoppert will have a difficult task next year to step up, play a larger role, and try to keep Martin Luther competitive. As a player who has flown a bit under the radar, possibly due to her role. With the newfound responsibility, I’m very curious if she has the ability to thrive in a bigger role because if she does that makes her a very interesting prospect. Julia Klein-5’10 F-’22-Catholic Central: Klein is the definition of a stat stuffer. She averaged a double-double her junior season, by averaging 13 points and 12 rebounds. Even with her counting stats on the offensive end, she does some good things defensively too. By averaging about one and a half blocks and steals she also was able to affect the game on the defensive end too. Even though her team didn’t have the best season a year ago she may have the ability to win a game that maybe her team shouldn’t.
