Artesia Preview of Players we watched:
Jordan Manning #32 – big presence down low and makes the opponent pay in the paint after sealing them for an easy layup. Used the glass on shots and can shoot the midrange. She ran the floor well and was able to catch and finish in the low post over her opponents. She was also a great rebounder and used her body well to keep the defenders off her as she scored.
Esja Shriver #22 – solid guard who gets steals and can take the ball all the way to finish thru contact. She can shoot the ball from midrange, but attributes are geared towards attacking the rim and finishing for easy scores. I witnessed her shoot the three ball and make them in one or two of the games, she has good form on the shot and we were convinced she is a shooter.
Sydney McKee Sydney McKee 5'6" | PG Artesia HS | 2022 State CA #2 – Aggressive guard who can handle the rock in traffic and finish at the rim on the break, used the left and right hand when attacking the rim. She handled the ball as the point guard and as the scoring guard and was equally good at both position and able to make shots with consistency. She was the best player on the squad for this group, she was the catalyst for the team and made them go. Sydney is a player and has always been, we have written her up before.
Samerika Young Samerika Young 5'11" | SF Artesia HS | 2023 State CA #25 – skilled forward in the paint as well, she can seal and makes shots as well, but she is agile and very aggressive on the offensive end. She is a wiling passer as well and made some great passes to teammates for easy scores. She has a good body type and she is a great rebounder under the glass. We like her tenacity in the paint, she would seal her defender and turn and score every time with no problems.
Shamira Barnes #11 – Young guard that is not afraid of attacking the basket, is still developing her point guard skills but can really shoot the three ball from the wing position. She did most of the point guard duties, but I witnessed that may not be her forte, but she is a good spot of shooter and her team can really use her there this year. She is good on defense and was able to go and grab a few rebounds for her team. She will progress this season and do many great things for her teammates.
