Throughout this month (and next), I will be highlighting selected teams across South Florida. Today, my focus is on Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. The Raiders went 17-4 last season and won the Class 6A state championship under head coach <strong>Oliver Berens</strong>. <strong>Arkansas</strong> signee [player_tooltip player_id="91500" first="Samara" last="Spencer"] is a key departure. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged over 16 points and nearly six rebounds per game.
Key players:
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="91641" first="Karina" last="Gordon"]
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91572" first="Breanna" last="Gustave"]
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="154841" first="Jada" last="Green"]
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="219942" first="Reina" last="Green"]
2023 transfer [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] (<strong>Delray American Heritage</strong>)
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="220011" first="Maya" last="Williams"]
2024 transfer [player_tooltip player_id="221678" first="Kamryn" last="Corporan"] (M<strong>iami Pace</strong>)
The above group of players give the Raiders one of the more talented rosters in the region. [player_tooltip player_id="154841" first="Jada" last="Green"] is a 6-foot-1 forward and is verbally committed to <strong>Richmond</strong>. She averaged ten points and 9.3 rebounds per using her size and athleticism. Moreover, Green can run for a big and score in transition. Staying in front of will be a problem for opponents. Overall, she's a mismatch at this level and tough to contain for 32 minutes.
Gordon is an athletic combo guard that averaged a team-best 16.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The 5-foot-9 prospect has a great handle and can score off the dribble with ease. She's a great offensive player with huge upside. Gordon is one of the best players in her class.
[player_tooltip player_id="91572" first="Breanna" last="Gustave"] is an unsigned senior that averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. [player_tooltip player_id="219942" first="Reina" last="Green"], [player_tooltip player_id="154841" first="Jada" last="Green"]’s sister, is a 5-foot-8 guard that is super athletic. Look for a big season from her after averaging just under five points per game.
[player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] was one of the top transfers in the state. The 6-foot forward plays hard and is a double-double machine. Ramsey can score off the block and uses her frame to grab a high volume of rebounds. She also has developed a mid-range game. Ramsey and Green will be tough players to stop on both ends of the floor.
2024 [player_tooltip player_id="221678" first="Kamryn" last="Corporan"] is another talented player from Pace. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 15.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.1 steals for the Spartans. The Raiders have plenty of scoring options in its backcourt with her addition.
St. Thomas Aquinas played some tight games on its way to a state championship. That is of no concern to me as the roster is stacked and they brought in two big-time transfers. While Spencer’s leadership is gone, St. Thomas Aquinas is a cohesive unit that has played with one another. The Raiders have all the ingredients to make another run at <strong>Lakeland</strong> and win a state championship.
