2021 Show-N-Prove: Top 2023 Prospects – Part 1 By Michael Wholey 11/9/21 9:00 AM EST Kim Davis Powell and John McGraw got together to host the 2021 Show-N-Prove Showcase in Daytona Beach. The two-day event featured some of the state’s top players across the 2022-2028 classes. We were in attendance for both days and will break down the performance of the events top players. Here we look at the top prospects in the 2023 class that were at the event. We wrote about [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"], [player_tooltip player_id="213334" first="Erica" last="Moon"] and [player_tooltip player_id="166212" first="Sophya" last="Barreiro"] HERE, identifying them as three of the top overall prospects at the event and the top two 2023s. In addition to Ramsey, Moon and Barreiro, the following players had impressive performances. [player_tooltip player_id="247145" first="Anaya" last="Brown"] (Colonial HS) Brown is a heady, athletic combo guard who plays smart and under control. She has a really good mid-range jumper, getting by her defender and into the paint. She can pull up off the dribble and knock it down from 10-12 off the bounce or she can get all the way to the rim. She uses her IQ and athleticism, to change speeds, and keep defenders off balance. [player_tooltip player_id="219938" first="Taylor" last="Blackshear"] (The Benjamin School) We have had a chance to see Blackshear several times over the years both in high school and on the travel circuit. She is a fast, explosive guard with quick 1st step and major hops! She was by far one of top athletes at showcase and had multiple games where she led her team in scoring. Having seen her over the years, it is fun to see her start to really put together a solid overall offensive skill set and not just use her athleticism. While she was very good attacking the basket and playing in transition, she also slowed it down and did a good job running the team in a half court set and finding open teammates on the wing and at the basket for easy hoops. [player_tooltip player_id="219942" first="Reina" last="Green"] (St. Thomas Aquinas) Green was one of the summers break out stars, doing a great job producing on the offensive end. While her strong, athletic build is what grabs your attention when you first watch her, her offensive production is what keeps it! She was of the top athletes in the gym and put it on display by attacking the basket and finishing high at the rim, sprinting in from the rim and grabbing offensive and defensive boards several inches above her teammates and opponents. What really opens things up for her, is her ability to knock down open 3s. When she is shooting the ball well, defenders have to close her out to the 3, and that opens up more opportunities to penetrate the paint! The athletic/strong guard has a physical offensive game and isn’t scared to generate contact attacking the rim. She has really developed her 3-point range and shooting percentage and is capable of picking up full court on defense. Emma Pendelton Pendelton hails from North Carolina and was a new face that this was my first time seeing her play. She was one of the most impactful interior post players of the weekend, as she was extremely productive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor – filling up the stat sheet. She is a 6’2 post with a strong lower frame and solid mass. She really stood out with her desire and effectiveness at seeking low post position and sealing down low, burying her defenders deep in the post. She showcased a comfortable level and an ability to play with her back to the basket (which is extremely rare as most post players want to play face up and don’t want to mix it up down low). She made multiple finishes at the rim where she displayed combination moves and was able to finish over both the left and right shoulders. She has soft hands, with a soft touch around the rim and finished well. [player_tooltip player_id="243934" first="Milan" last="Santos"] (Colonial HS) Santos was another impressive stand out from Colonial High School that performed well all weekend. She is an athletic wing with smooth stroke and deep range. She has a great strong, long, athletic body with an impressive wingspan. She is very confident with the ball in her hands and does a good job playing under control. She changes speed well and keeps defenders off balance with shifty moves and playing under composure. We will look to continue to cover all across the state of Florida. Our audience supplies us with some of our best information. Keep us updated on Florida news be emailing me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM’ing me through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
