Week one of practice is now in the books and teams are sharpening their skill sets as the first game approaches. This past weekend, Lebanon High School hosted a play day with teams from various parts of the state. There were some very good programs matched up with each other, providing onlookers a taste of what the season has in store. From playing in your face pressure defense to knocking down the 3 ball, fans in attendance started conversations leading to bold predictions of what the future may hold for clubs. Even though not all programs in the state were represented, this day served as a great foundation of what is to come throughout our state.
As week 2 of preseason kicks off, more teams will be doing scrimmages and play days as they get ready for the season. Teams that normally wouldn’t play each other in the regular season, are slated to go at each other for some early-season work. We here at PGH Tennessee can’t wait for the opening week to tip-off. Let the countdown begin!
Here are some notable standouts from the Lebanon High School play day from week 1.
Autumn Davis Autumn Davis 5'4" | PG MTCS | 2023 State TN (5’3/ PG/ Jr./ Middle Tennessee Christian)– The 5’3 PG is primed and ready to compete this year in the HS ranks. Having to sit out last year, Autumn is ready to take the helm and lead the Lady Cougars towards a deep playoff run. Autumn plays the game with poise, possessing great ball-handling skills. She has a high basketball IQ and is always doing the right thing at the right time. She has a great feel for the game and knows how to deliver passes on time to her teammates. She can get to the rim and knock down the mid-range J. She’s a great kid with a huge upside.
Carleigh Wilson Carleigh Wilson 5'10" | CG Oakland | 2022 State TN (5’11/ G/ Sr./Oakland)– The former Hillsboro standout has transferred to Oakland High looking to add some firepower to the Lady Patriots program. A multi-level scorer who understands how to use her length to create mismatches. Offensively, she can play inside or out but is great in the transition game. Carleigh knows how to create havoc on the defensive end, which leads to buckets going the other way. Look for her to grab the attention of many collegiate coaches on multiple levels as she has reopened her recruitment back up.
Ta’Mia Scott (6’0/G/ Sr./ Clarksville Northwest)– The Middle Tennessee State commit is ready to cap off her impressive high school career with a hopeful trip to the Boro. Ta’Mia is the backbone of her club, as well as a candidate for Ms. Tennessee. This tall and lanky guard can do it all. A 3 level scorer, who has a high motor. She knows how to take advantage of mismatches, create space off the dribble, and get to the rim to finish against contact. It doesn’t matter if she is playing inside or along the arc, she is a double-digit scoring threat night in and night out. Defensively, her size and length allow her to get steals and deflect passes, leading to transition buckets. Ta’Mia has a ton of upside with a lot more room to grow.
Summer Bostock (6’0/ CG/ Sr./ Webb- Buckle)– O’ Canada, welcome to Tennessee. The Maryland commit is ready to take off and compete against some Tennessee talent. This combo guard who represented her home country in the FIBA U16 Women’s National events is as tough as they come. She is a natural multi-level scorer who can put the ball in the hole from anywhere. From attacking gaps to get to the rim and finishing with either hand, to knocking down 3s from beyond the arc, this special talent has landed in TN ready to take flight. She comes in with an impressive resume and will instantly add value to an already talented Webb- Bell Buckle team. Look for her to help lead Webb back to the final four and compete for another state title.
Jordan Gillies Jordan Gillies 5'11" | SG Cookeville | 2023 State TN (5’11/ CG/ Jr./ Cookeville)– A big guard who is the heart and soul of her club. JG can do it all. This dynamic scoring threat is tough to deal with. She can beat you from multiple spots whether it be inside or outside of the arc. She can attack downhill in transition, finish at the rim, and deliver timely passes to open teammates. She is a coach’s dream on the floor (literally), but understands and plays the game at a high level. Look for her to take huge strides this junior season as she looks to lead her Lady Cavaliers club.
Artasia Cole Artasia Cole 5'8" | PG Oakland | 2023 State TN (5’7/PG/ Jr./ Oakland)– The 5 ’7 PG is coming into her own as her confidence has grown. After an impressive summer ball season, Artasia is looking to help propel her Lady Patriots team in a tough Rutherford County district. She plays the game with poise and can handle the ball under pressure. She has great foot speed, which enables her to attack going downhill, penetrating gaps to either finish at the rim or kick out. She has developed a nice mid-range game to add to her arsenal. Defensively, her length and speed can create chaos. Look for her to apply pressure as well as get a lot of steals and deflections in the Lady Patriots defensive schemes.
