Continue ReadingThe Fall Exclusive came to an end on Friday as six teams competed for the Big Ten Division championship. The Huskers were 6-0 through the first three weeks but fell short to the Badgers. Over the last four weeks we saw a lot of great things. We got to see new players we haven’t laid eyes on yet and we saw girls playing different roles then what they are used to. These showcases have proven to be good because girls are able to try new things on the court, play freely and have fun playing in a pick-up style environment. So many girls had great performances, but these 10 went above and beyond. Here is the Big Ten Division All-Tournament team.
First Team:
Gabby Betton Gabby Betton 5'9" | CG Lakeville North | 2024 State MN – 2024 combo guard, Lakeville North
Betton played at a high level every game during the Fall Exclusive. She was the key factor in helping her Badgers team win the championship game. The combo guard is playing some of her best basketball and has shown on a consistent basis that she can do it all. There wasn’t a spot on the court she didn’t feel comfortable in. One of her best assets is grabbing the defensive rebound on a miss and taking it the length of the floor, usually getting fouled because she can beat the other team down the floor. On offense she can take you one-on-one or knock down the three. If you have Betton on your team I would surround her with shooters, because that’s what the Gophers did and were successful, as she was able to attack and dish to one of the Avas, the two sophomores Ava Cossette Ava Cossette 5'10" | CG Maple Grove | 2024 State MN and Ava Holman Ava Holman 5'9" | CG Champlin Park | 2024 MN are some of the best shooters in the state.
Sidney Klauer Sidney Klauer 5'7" | CG East Ridge | 2024 State MN – 2024 combo guard, East Ridge
Klauer was on our top performers list every week, playing some of her best basketball yet. She was a walking bucket at the Fall Exclusive where she was the leading scorer in the Big Ten division. The combo guard went on a scoring rampage where she average over 20 points in all eight games. She scored in a variety of ways by getting to the hoop, knocking down the three consistently and getting to the free-throw line. Klauer was the key to the Huskers success, going undefeated in the first three rounds, but fell short in the championship. Sidney radiated with confidence all four weeks helping her raise her stock.
Shannon Fornshell Shannon Fornshell 6'1" | SF Wayzata | 2023 State MN – 2023 small forward, Wayzata
Fornshell makes an impact on every team she plays on and she did just that at the Fall Exclusive. She does it all on both ends of the floor, whether it be rebounding, blocking shots or finishing around the rim. Her teammates looked to her to make a play and she delivered every time. Now a junior, the small forward has stepped into more a leadership role on the court and plays with confidence. The nice thing about Fornshell is that she can play any position, and is one of the most fundamentally sound players in the state, making it hard for other forwards to guard. At 6’1 Shannon can spread the floor because she can also knock down the three.
Anna Vaaler Anna Vaaler 5'10" | SF Andover | 2024 State MN – 2024 combo guard, Andover
Vaaler is considered a small forward but at the Fall Exclusive she looked like a guard, where she handled the ball the majority of the time. She was able to break press, beat her defender one-on-one and hit the three. The forward has a motor that doesn’t shut down as she plays strong, fast and confident the whole game. On transition she was not afraid to take it all the way, where she is good at going into another gear to beat her girl; usually resulting in a foul and a free throw. At 5’10 and a great build she was hard to guard for the smaller guards. The guard/forward will be great at the next level and she is on pace to have one of the best years yet, having a bigger role at Andover and playing on a strong AAU team this spring.
Arabella Sutch – 2024 forward, Spring Lake Park
Bella is a beast down low when she catches it at the block. There were only a couple girls that could match up with her physicality in the paint. The forward is very good using the backboard, and can finish with both hands on both sides. In 4 of the games she had over 20 points and that came from mostly all twos, and free-throws. There were stretches of the game where she would score 8 in a row. She set screens for the point guard, rebounded well, and ran the floor, doing all the little things for her team. Sutch is playing her best basketball right now and her ceiling is super high, I think in a year she will become one of the best forwards in the state.
Second Team:
Ava Cossette Ava Cossette 5'10" | CG Maple Grove | 2024 State MN – 2024 shooting guard, Maple Grove
The shooting guard did what she does best and shot the ball really well from beyond the arc the last four weeks. She complimented teammates Ava Holman Ava Holman 5'9" | CG Champlin Park | 2024 MN and Gabby Betton Gabby Betton 5'9" | CG Lakeville North | 2024 State MN well, where she was a huge contributor for her team winning the championship. Cossette ran the floor well, to get easy buckets in transition.
Olivia Pawlicki Olivia Pawlicki 6'1" | SF Shakopee | 2024 State MN – 2024 forward, Shakopee
Pawlicki is one of a kind. She can do it all on both ends of the floor. On defense she can guard girls who are bigger and stronger then her using her length and timing to get stops. At 6’0 Pawlicki is hard to guard. On the defensive end she’ll block your shot on the block and then come down on offense and hit a three.
Ava Holman Ava Holman 5'9" | CG Champlin Park | 2024 MN – 2024 combo guard, Champlin Park
Holman is special, she’s good at everything. She was good at transition offense, where she was either running the floor or passing it up to a teammate for an easy bucket. She’s deadly from beyond the arc and has one of the quickest releases I’ve seen whether it be a three pointer, midrange jumper or floater down the lane. She was a major contributor to her teams success, helping them win the championship.
Piper Engelby Piper Engelby 5'11" | SG Andover | 2024 State MN – 2024 guard/forward, Andover
Engelby proved why she is a top 20 prospect at the Fall Exlusive. Normally known for her three-point shooting, she showed her versatility the last four weeks playing in the post a lot and dominating against some of the best forwards in the state.
Emily Crandall Emily Crandall 5'10" | CG Sartell | 2023 State MN – 2023 guard, Sartell
Crandall is playing her best basketball and looked like a complete player at the Fall Exclusive. She plays with heart and never takes a possession off. She was impressive on both ends of the floor, locking down her player on defense and getting to the hoop on offense. She was really good at taking the ball to the hoop strong and finishing with contact.
