Continue ReadingI didn’t see Jewels Perez-5’5 PG (San Angelo Central) and she’s not in my database yet I wanted to give her a S/O for being selected to the All-Tournament Team in the Katy Classic. I watched 16 teams, the other 16 were at another facility and I was only there for opening day so from the player I’ve already see, either live or MEMOREX here’s my next article from the event
2022
Summer Halphen (Seven Lakes)
Haplhen does what love seeing players do and that’s “play the passing lane” but she’s long and athletic, understands how to set the defender up to attack off the dribble yet she also showed she could drop the outside shot with a hand in her face
Kira Bass-6’2 C (Killeen Ellison)
Bass is no fish out of water because she is a physical specimen to deal with around the basket. She’s strong and finishes with either hand yet she’s also “long and athletic” remember that’s the base and she has good timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots but get this, she runs the floor and both ends and dives on that same floor for loose balls
2023
Alexis Cortez Alexis Cortez 5'10" | SF Allen | 2023 State TX (Allen)
Cortez understands something very important, how to put the ball into the basket and although I didn’t see her squad, I’ve been watching her since she was in MS d was impressed enough to drop #D1Lock back then. She is strong and powerful around the rim, she scores off putbacks yet she rebounds against taller players and she can score off the dribble and finish after contact. Her outside shooting, mid to long-range, adds what she brings to the table yet her defense “on the ball” sets that same tame
Micah Elegores Micah Elegores 5'6" | PG Katy Taylor | 2023 State TX -5’7 PG (Katy Taylor)
Elegores is one of those players that left a lasting first impression when I caught her in middle school and let me add she is one of the most “underrated point guards” in her Texas 2023 class. She sees the floor through a microscope and her “no looks” helped get the “crook” out of my neck after sleeping badly yet don’t sleep on her because she also handles the ball under pressure and can score off the dribble as well as drop the mid to long-range jumper
Brianna Nelson-5’11 PF (Katy)
Nelson is so strong and powerful and watching her score with players literally hanging on her delayed my trip to the hospitality room yet her going after the ball off the rim was huge, for me, because it’s a lost art. She’s athletic, plays the passing lane, and does a good job defending both inside and outside the paint but she also uses that same power to attack the basket from the wing and yes, finished with contact
