Now that a quarter of the season is in the books, it’s now time to recognize some of the young ladies who have increased their stock early on in the season. These young ladies have shown they have what it takes to contribute consistently on a nightly basis, proving they have that extra oomph for their club. Whether it is scoring the rock, making that assist, or grabbing boards, these young ladies have shown that they are more than capable of meeting the challenge. Trust me, as PGH Tennessee makes its way across the state, there will be other young ladies who will be identified and their efforts will be recognized. This state is littered with talented girls who have the fortitude and ability to get it done. In this article, we are just scratching the surface of what this state has to offer. If you are a college coach reading this, welcome to the state where the girls are just built differently. We got 42,143 sq. miles of talent. Tennessee has what you need! Here are some notable young ladies whose stock is on the rise. Crysti’anna “Shaq” Whitehead (5’11/ Jr./ W/ Memphis Business Academy)- This young lady puts in the work. A gym rat who shoots over 40% from the arc. This sharpshooter knows how to score the rock. From dialing it from deep to slashing to the lane, scoring buckets is her thing. Wait, there is more. Shaq has a motor on her. From pickpocketing opponents to grabbing boards, this young lady is an all-around player that contributes in multiple ways. Naveah Scott ( 5’5/ Jr. / CG/ Bartlett)- This crafty scorer is coming into her own this season. Excellent in the mid-range and from beyond the arc, Naveah knows her role and plays it well. With so much attention going to her teammates, Naveah goes about her game silently. She will carve you out in multiple ways, leaving coaches wondering who the kid is who knifed through them that night. Great foot speed, she anticipates well on the defensive end, creating turnovers that lead to transitional buckets. [player_tooltip player_id="245320" first="Raven" last="Sims"] (5’9/ Jr./ PG/ Tipton-Rosemark)- Heady floor general who knows how to score buckets. She is an aggressive offensive player, getting down to attack the rim. A multi-level shooter who doesn’t force her game. Competitor on the defensive end, she knows how to create havoc leading to turnovers. She’s a stat stuff who contributes in multiple categories. Almost a triple-double nightly when this girl is on the floor. Sariah “Boxer” Conley ( 5’6/ Jr./ CG/ Collierville)- The “step back queen,” this young lady loves to reside on the 3pt line. She possesses great handles, has a quick first step, and can get to the mid-range area. Boxer is hungry and is a tough opponent to deal with. Creating turnovers is her thing on the defensive end. This kid has that dog in her. [player_tooltip player_id="421980" first="Atiya" last="Moss"] (5’9/ Jr. CG/ Clarksville Academy)- Silky Smooth. Atiya is a diamond in the rough. A multi-level scorer who is the backbone for her club. Atiya can affect the game in multiple ways. An unselfish player who can score the rock on all 3 levels, make timely assists, and contribute on the glass. She’s a hustler on the defensive end. This gym rat loves competition and does the little things to help her club win games. [player_tooltip player_id="285370" first="Madi" last="Lewis"] (5’7/ Jr./ CG/ Columbia Academy)- Talented guard who uses deception to carve out defenses. Madi is a smart player who takes whatever the defense gives her. You guard her on the arc, she’s getting to the rim. You sag off her, she’s launching from deep. Her thing is scoring and she does that so well. She’s the leader of the Lady Dawgs and brings the energy every single night. Contributes on both ends of the floor, helping her team stack up wins. Karlie Campbell (5’4/ So./ PG/Summertown)- Young and fierce, Karlie has found her niche on the team. Contributing earlier on to a state-run in her career, this young lady isn’t scared of the lights. From making buckets from numerous places on the floor to playing in your face defense, Karlie is a go-getter and this Summertown girl gets after it. Christiana Groves (5’11/ Fr. / G/Pearl-Cohn)- New to the high school scene, Christiana is making an impact for the Lady Firebirds right away. From playing defense to scoring the ball, this young kid has a motor on her. Possessing great length and size, she serves as a mismatch on a nightly basis. Keep an eye out for her as she adds more tools to her tool belt. Emmy Lowe (5’9/ Fr. / PG/ Pickett Co.)- Scoring point guard who can score it on multiple levels. She has a high basketball IQ and is a savvy player. Has a quick first step and understands the nuances of the game. If she’s driving to the rim and the defense collapses on her, she can make the pass in order for her teammates to catch in rhythm. Even though she is new to the HS scene, Emmy is a rising star and one of the top guards in her class. [player_tooltip player_id="245292" first="Jailyn" last="Banks"] (5’8/ Jr./ CG/MTCS)- Shifty guard who can shoot from multiple levels. Whether it’s beyond the arc, shooting the mid-range, or slashing to the rim, JB just gets it done. She’s dynamic with the ball in her hands and can help change the course of the game at the drop of a dime. A lockdown defender who takes pride in defense and doing the little things to help will her team to a win. [player_tooltip player_id="285351" first="Sarah" last="Burton"] (5’9/Sr./ CG/ Clinton)- This senior hooper is fun to watch. She’s the all-time scoring leader for her school, knocking down shots from all over the floor. The UVA-Wise commit is tough with the ball in her hands. A force to be reckoned with, Sarah knows how to help carry a club. Smart kid who knows how to make an impact with the ball. This coachable kid with a smooth jump shot will finish out her HS senior year with records that may never be broken at her school. Sydnie Hayes (5’7/ Sr./ SG/ Grainger)- The Johnson University commit knows how to put the ball in the basket. She’s a bucket from downtown and is comfortable putting the ball on the floor as well. Has had a stellar senior season this far, contributing to her team beyond just the scoring column. She’s an awesome leader who makes her teammates better. [player_tooltip player_id="290995" first="Gracie" last="Waite"] (5’6/ So./ PG/Hardin Valley Academy)- Tough kid who is coming into her own. Gracie has great court vision, where she can see the floor to deliver timely passes to her teammates. With the ball in her hands, she is looking to attack downhill, finishing at the rim. Gracie contributes on the boards as well as creates turnovers leading to fast breaks. Great kid who will continue to grow with experience.
