West Orange Holiday Tournament Standouts

Many high school teams across New Jersey are currently participating in mini holiday tournaments as 2021 comes to an end, and we wanted to take a look at a one-day tournament up in West Orange that was incredibly competitive. The West Orange Holiday Tournament welcomed four teams, including West Orange, and it produced a very close game between the Mountaineers and Union City. Let’s take a look at the best performances from Thursday’s tournament. [player_tooltip player_id="134640" first="Erika" last="Mercedes"] - Union City Mercedes had a great game against West Orange, one of two leading scorers in the game with 15 points, four rebounds and two three-pointers. She’s consistently been one of the best all-around players in the HCIAL small tournaments like this allow her to continue to showcase that talent off. [player_tooltip player_id="325193" first="Jaylyn" last="Orefice"] - Union City Orefice equaled Merecedes in the loss for Union City, scoring 15 points, along with seven rebounds and a steal. She was a big presence in the interior for The U despite coming up short in the end. However, we’re quickly seeing a breakout year coming from the sophomore, so watch out in the HCIAL. [player_tooltip player_id="321569" first="Meghan" last="Lamanna"] - New Providence Lamanna led all scorers in the holiday invitational with a 19-point performance in a dominating 52-29 win or New Providence over Holmdel. Lamanna has scored in double-figures in five of six games played this season, including two 20-point performances early on. Adrienne Taylor Kamara - West Orange Taylor Kamara and Mya Bushrod each had 10 points in the win for West Orange, both career-highs for the sophomores. However, for Taylor Kamara, she’s been looking for an opportunity to break out for the Mountaineers and after her freshman year coming off the bench, she’s averaging 6.3 PPG in the early going for West Orange. [player_tooltip player_id="325196" first="Grace" last="Kinum"] - New Providence The sophomore, coming off a fantastic freshman season, has been stellar so far in the early going for New Providence, including a 13-point, four-steal and four-assist performance in the win over Holmdel. It was her fourth game scoring in double-figures, fifth game of 4+ assists and third game of 4+ steals this season for the Pioneers.
