The McDonald’s All-American Game will be making a return trip to Chicago this March. Over the years, this game has featured many of the all time greats in the game of basketball. It’s a game full of prestige and an honor for each and every player nominated nationwide. Some of Michigan’s all time greats have been nominated or played in the McDonald’s All American Game. There were 8 players from the state that were Midwest Nominations. Let’s look at the Michigan prep players that earned this honor. [player_tooltip player_id="147725" first="Lexus" last="Bargesser"] (2022, PG, Grass Lake) Bargesser and her performance in last year’s state championship game will go down as legendary in Michigan high school basketball history. The great thing is, that type of leadership and display of basketball skill is an everyday occurrence with this star. Bargesser will be playing at Indiana next year. [player_tooltip player_id="147715" first="Theryn" last="Hallock"] (2022, G, Forest Hills Central) Hallock is nationally ranked by Prep Girls Hoops. She slides in as the number 71 ranked player in the nation. Hallock is a top notch shooter from both mid range and behind the arc. She’s a high level perimeter defender as well. If you like toughness, Hallock is your kind of player. She’ll be continuing her basketball career at Michigan State University following this season. [player_tooltip player_id="147716" first="Abbey" last="Kimball"] (2022, G, Grand Rapids West Catholic) Kimball is ranked as the #63 prospect nationally by Prep Girls Hoops. She’s an elite floor general that can guide an offense with the best of them. Better yet, she can get buckets when her team needs them, and she has a terrific feel for when that time is. Kimball will be playing at Michigan State University next year. [player_tooltip player_id="277635" first="Davai" last="Matthews"] (2022, F, Wayne Memorial) Matthews has a very diverse game and can attack in a variety of ways. She can manipulate her matchup and play inside-out or outside-in. Matthews can battle in the paint as well as step outside and shoot from distance. She’s headed to California State - Long Beach to continue her basketball career at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="147714" first="Mya" last="Petticord"] (2022, PG, Arbor Prep) Petticord is the second ranked prospect in the state and number 33 nationally. She is a dynamic guard that can make plays with her elite ball handling skills and her ability to change direction on a dime. Petticord is having a terrific senior season and this honor is well deserved. She will be taking her game to Texas A&M after high school. [player_tooltip player_id="178886" first="Deyonce" last="Thompson"] (2022, PG, East Kentwood) Thompson has been playing lights out since the fall and certainly deserves this nomination. She’s one of the most dangerous guards around when she puts the ball on the floor and attacks her defender in isolation. Thompson can start and stop on a dime and makes breaking down a defender look almost easy. [player_tooltip player_id="147717" first="Madisen" last="Wardell"] (2022, F, Detroit Edison) It’s nice to see a player like Wardell show up on this list. She’s a true team player that’s willing to play whatever role her team needs her to in order to pick up the win. Wardell’s diverse skill set and physical attributes allows her to do this incredibly successfully. She can be found playing at DePaul next season. [player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] (2022, PG, Detroit Edison) Whitehorn is a top 20 prospect in the country and one of the best point guards in the state. She can play over top the defender and sees the floor with the best in the nation. Whitehorn can play at any pace, score in a variety of ways, and has a zip on her passes that’s not often seen. She will be heading to Clemson next season.
