Heading into the start of district play there have been players emerging as ones to keep an eye on. From solid post players to lights-out shooters, these players have played at a high level for their teams. Here is a list of players that have shown they are ones to watch halfway through the high school season.
Aniyah Joseph 5’10 Sophomore Post
Hobbs HS
Aniyah Joseph is averaging double digits in both points and rebounds heading into district play. The Double-Double machine is a beast on the boards and equally effective on the ball’s offensive side, scoring 18 pts a game and grabbing 15 rebounds. If the Eagles want to make another state tournament run, Joseph will have to keep up her stellar play and help the Eagles to be a contender come March.

[player_tooltip player_id="353692" first="Jayden" last="Jenkins"] has helped her team to a 14 -1 record so far this season. Her solid footwork in the paint to go along with a nice midrange game has allowed her to be a standout up to this point scoring 17 pts a game. Her solid frame allows her to get after it on the boards as well at 10 rebounds a game. She helped her team win the Capital City tournament in December and was named the MVP. Jayden took a visit to Otero College before the season started.
[player_tooltip player_id="353953" first="Aaliyah" last="Nevarez"] 5’11 Junior SG/SF

[player_tooltip player_id="353953" first="Aaliyah" last="Nevarez"] has been a great 3 point threat for the Hornets this season. The sharpshooter has hit 27 3 point shots and had multiple games where she has made 3 to 4 in a game. She has also helped on the boards grabbing 46 so far this season. The Hornets are 10-4 this season and will need Aaliyah to continue her good play as they start district and hope to contend for the 4A state tournament title.
[player_tooltip player_id="370403" first="Kindyll" last="Sandoval"] 5’6 Sophomore SG

Believe me when I say you can’t leave this sniper open. [player_tooltip player_id="370403" first="Kindyll" last="Sandoval"] has shown the ability to consistently knock it down from deep and has had multiple games with 4-3 point makes in a game. She also has helped her team on the boards from the guard position and isn’t afraid to mix it up among the trees. Lots of upside for this young lady who has helped her team to a 12-5 record and has been chosen as player of the game this season from Sports Primo and Proview networks.
[player_tooltip player_id="357652" first="Azalia" last="Malizia"] 5’4 Guard

[player_tooltip player_id="357652" first="Azalia" last="Malizia"] does a little of everything for the Jaguars. A good floor general that is quick off the dribble and can get to the bucket but can shoot it from three when needed averaging 10 points a game. She has also shown her quickness on the defensive end creating havoc and harassing opposing ball handlers with 2.5 steals a game. Azalia is hoping to help her team get to the state tournament which would be a great accomplishment for the Jaguars who are a small team but can’t be counted out this season and have shown flashes of being someone not to overlook.
