In a battle for first place in the conference and state playoff seeding, Wayne Country Day used a second half rally to take down rival Wayne Christian 52-49 Tuesday in Goldsboro. The Chargers were down seven and managed to have a 16-point turnaround to take control. While the Eagles did fight back to have a shot to tie, it wasn’t meant to be as Wayne Country Day now holds sole possession of first place in the conference. Here are the standouts from this contest. <strong>Jada Vanderhorst (WCDS 2026 forward)</strong> An eighth grader making an impact at the varsity level, Jada Vanderhorst played her best game of the season for the Chargers. She was all over the glass and created second chance points leading to a double-double performance. Her ability to finish around the basket in traffic makes her an important piece for Wayne Country Day as they make their state playoff push. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="261087" first="Trinity" last="Smith"] (WCDS 2024 forward)</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="261087" first="Trinity" last="Smith"] was a tone setter early for the Chargers with a couple of tough takes to the basket. Her rebounding and defensive presence made things difficult for the Eagles for most of the contest. Her stellar played continued in this game as she finished with 16 for the Eagles and kept them close in the final minutes.
