The last thing I want to organize for the state tournament is a Team of Tournament. These five players were outstanding in the state tournament, and I’d like to give them the recognition they deserve. The format I used for this is having three guards and two forwards. Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="374229" first="Amy" last="Terrian"], Pewaukee The Pirates’ guard had an outstanding debut in Pewaukee’s semifinal game against Reedsburg. Terrian finished the Reedsburg game with 31 points, five assists, and two rebounds. She shot 9 for 15 from the field, three for six from behind the 3-point line, and 10 for 11 from the free-throw line. Terrian operates like she already knows how the defense is trying to corral her, and I could watch her play all day long. I have not seen a more natural-looking scorer in Wisconsin. Guard: Ella Chambers, Mineral Point The senior guard was incredible at the Resch Center. Chambers averaged 17 points per game in two games at the Resch Center, scoring more than her 11 point season average in both games. Westfield and Laconia tried to deny future UW-Oshkosh Titan [player_tooltip player_id="204138" first="Mallory" last="Lindsey"] the ball, and Chambers exploited the extra space to attack the basket. Although the Pointers won both games by double digits, The Pioneers and Spartans each made runs at Mineral Point, but Chambers always seemed to make a play that would give the Pointers the momentum back when they needed it most. Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="209879" first="Trista" last="Fayta"], Notre Dame Entering the second half, the Tritons trailed Pewaukee 26-25 in the D2 State Title game. What Fayta did in the second half was nothing short of legendary. Fayta scored most of her 27 points in the second half, with a stretch of possessions where it felt like she took and made a 3-pointer on four straight possessions. The sophomore finished the title game with 27 points, five rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="156050" first="Grace" last="Grocholski"], Kettle Moraine I have not seen a better performance than what future Arizona State Sun Devil [player_tooltip player_id="156050" first="Grace" last="Grocholski"] put together against Appleton East in the D1 state title game. I’ve seen Appleton East lose to Hortonville and not be as flustered as they were against Kettle Moraine (granted, it wasn’t for a state title). The Patriots had no answer for Grocholski, even sending multiple bodies at her didn’t work. When the Laser didn’t score, Grocholski drew fouls and got to the free-throw line, where she shot 15 for 16. I’ve seen all the top players in this state, but I haven’t seen the pure domination I saw Grocholski deploy Saturday night. Froward: [player_tooltip player_id="209617" first="Kayl" last="Petersen"], Waupun The Waupun sophomore is one of the most talented players in the state. Petersen punishes any mistake the defense makes, no matter how minor it may seem. After two games, Petersen averaged 19.5 points, eight rebounds, shot 48% from the field, and 57% from behind the 3-point line. Any amount the space the defense gave her, she took full advantage of in Green Bay. Everything she did looked easy and is a work of art when you see her operate in person.
