I traveled long and far across the entire state of Georgia from the North to the South, East to West to see some of the most intriguing matchups throughout the state tournament. Now that I can finally catch my breath, here are some of the top performers I saw over the past month of the GHSA State Playoffs.
2022 6-0 W Kara Dunn Kara Dunn 6'0" | SF Mt. Paran Christian | 2022 State #70 Nation GA – Mt. Paran
Ms. Georgia Basketball led her senior and freshman-laden team to Mt. Paran’s first-ever state championship. Georgia Tech-signee poured in 30 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks in title game. Draws fouls incredibly well and is a high IQ player that makes everyone around her better. Sweet mid-range jumper. Great hands on defense.
2024 5-9 W Milani Smith Milani Smith 5'9" | SF Luella | 2024 State GA – Luella
Offense ran through the young wing in the overtime periods. Uses her strength to get inside and finish through contact. Tough-nosed rebounder. Balanced offensive game extends to three-point line.
2023 5-9 W Trinity Thomas Trinity Thomas 5'8" | SF Greater Atlanta Christian | 2023 State GA – GAC
Does the dirty work. Gets on the glass and plays bigger than her size. Sneaky good scorer that hits the three, scores off the bounce and finishes putbacks. In line for a breakout senior season.
2022 5-9 W Anna Gernatt Anna Gernatt 5'10" | SF Harrison | 2022 State GA – Harrison
Elite three-point shooter hit 104 on the year. Led team to Class 7A State Runner-Up. Effective rebounder. Burns teams that try to run her off the line with quick one and two-dribble pull-ups.
