Jillian Huerter Jillian Huerter 6'0" | PG Kent | 2023 State NY ’ 23 G – Elevate
It is as if Hueter has eyes on the back of her head, she sees everything! One of the reasons why she was, to me, one of the top point guards at the tournament was because she doesn’t waste any motions. She keeps it simple and makes it look so easy. She drives effectively with any hesitation or second thoughts and everything she does, she does with confidence. Hueter is a true leader out there who keeps everything moving smoothly for her team. Whether that means passing the ball, controlling the ball or scoring, she can do it all.
Isabella Asencio ’23 G – United NJ
Asencio is a fearless point guard despite her size. She is quick on her feet but also makes quick, correct reads. Her handles stood out the most to me while watching her play. She dribbles so low defenders can’t steal it from her and she dribbles with control, she pushes the ball with force as she is bringing it up the court, intimidating her defenders. She is strong with her moves and doesn’t let people take advantage of her height. As I mentioned before, Asencio is very good at making quick reads, if she sees her defender coming at her she is great at adjusting and keeping control, never panicking or speeding up. She can cross up her defender while still running the offense and looking for one of her teammates to drive to the basket or her shooters to get open.
Ava Sollenne Ava Sollenne 5'7" | CG St. Luke’s | 2023 NY ’23 G – Empire State Basketball
Sollenne was a standout guard from the weekend who effectively did her job. She doesn’t need to score thirty points a game, she just plays her role and she definitely does it well. She gets her assists, she gets her defensive stops and she gets her shots. She cheers on her teammates, supportive through the whole game and overall just looks like a great, fun teammate to play with.
Jada Mills Jada Mills 5'8" | CG Putnam Science | 2023 NY ’23 G – NY Gauchos
I would describe Mills as a combo guard; she can run point, shoot the three, pull-up and knock down floaters and finish the tough layup. She will always end up with a handful of assists and most of them will be kick-outs for her shooters. She is definitely a leader you want as part of your team. She sees the court very well and has this way of slowing the game down. Mills is great at running the plays, getting people in the right position, and patiently waiting for her team. She doesn’t dribble excessively, gives the ball up and keeps the offense moving.
Taryn Barbot Taryn Barbot 5'9" | CG St. Mary’s | 2023 State NY ’23 G – New Heights
Barbot is a dominant player on the court that takes control when she is out there. She is patient, doesn’t force anything and likes to dribble and wait for the right moment to drive against the defense. You will see her drive more than shoot but when she does let it fly she has a nice arc, shooting it nice and high. Barbot is very light with the ball but has complete control over what she is doing and where she is going.
