Six Miami Suns Players In the Class of 2023 That Stood Out in April By Michael Wholey 5/12/22 7:00 AM EST We have got a chance to see the Miami Suns at the Sunshine State Showdown and the Boo Williams Invitational Round 1 of the EYBL circuit. Here are six Miami Suns players in the class of 2023 that have stood out in April. [player_tooltip player_id="91641" first="Karina" last="Gordon"] - 5’10” Guard (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Gordon is an explosive, athletic, and skilled guard who is a dynamic offensive perimeter player. A new addition to the Miami Suns Team Fowles squad, throughout April, she established herself as a slasher who can make strong moves in traffic while also stretching the defense with her shooting. While Gordon proved that she can create her own shot and often served as a secondary ball handler for the Suns, she played her best offensive game playing off the ball. She has strong footwork coming off down screens and flare screens, with the ability to catch and shoot and knock down 3s at a high percentage. Not just a shooter, Gordon can put the ball to the floor and attack off the bounce as well. She can get a bit wild, resulting in some low percentage shots or bad turnovers but her competitiveness and passion is obvious, and she often looks to initiate contact and is always one of the first players to dive on the floor for loose balls. E’Zaria Adams - (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Adams is nimble on her feet, makes a number of moves that showcase her athleticism, and has a nice euro step. She is a big guard / wing that is a capable ball handler, who is good at drawing defense and finding bigs down low for easy buckets off dump passes. She is a capable 3-point shooter but needs some time and to get her feet set. [player_tooltip player_id="91644" first="D’Yanis" last="Jimenez"] – (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Jimenez is an athletic, smooth guard with excellent handle and a well-rounded offensive game. She has a bit of showmanship to her game, often dropping dimes in transition off no look passes. Known mainly for her offensive game, Jimenez showcases her defensive capabilities at Boo and Sunshine State but grabbing several steals running through passing lanes, having active hands both on the ball and off the ball, resulting in a number of tips and deflections in addition to steals. [player_tooltip player_id="247134" first="Janessa" last="Williams"] – Class of 2023 (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Williams is just fun to watch and a player that would be fun to coach and to play with. She is strong, athletic, and competitive that does not take plays off and does a great job bringing activity and energy off the bench for the Miami Suns Team Fowles. She is a strong and aggressive offensive rebounder, who stands out for pursuit of the basketball and constant movement. She does a good job of consistently going to the boards and using her athleticism to get around opposing players to purse the ball. She plays bigger than her size and is versatile enough that she can guard multiple positions. Khayla Ngodu – (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Ngodu is a tall, long post that is active and fairly athletic for a player of her size. She uses her length well in the paint, often blocking or deterring shots in the paint and is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor. She is at her best and stays out of foul trouble when she stays on her feet and walls up against opposing post players or smaller guards looking to attack the rim. On the offensive end, she has a soft touch around the rim, capable of finishing with both her left and right hands and has a nice baby hook. She is very effective at the high post, as she can knock down the 15-footer, read the defense and pass out of elbow touches and put the ball to the floor 1-2 dribbles to attack the basket. She has a ton of potential and needs to be cautious of being overly aggressive as it takes her out of plays or gets her in foul trouble and she needs to not shy away from physical and aggressive play and find ways to shoot more shots from the paint and get to the free throw line more often. [player_tooltip player_id="243947" first="Tyra" last="Kennedy"] – (Miami Suns Team Fowles) Kennedy is a tough, gritty guard that does a good job being involved and impacting the game on both ends of the floor, even when she is not playing well or does not have the ball in her hands. She is a solid perimeter player that does not shy away from touch matchups and does a good job pressuring the ball and stepping into passing lanes. She is one of the most well rounded and fundamental players in the class of 2023 in Florida because she plays with excellent composure, is very active, competes every possession, and has a high basketball IQ. She uses her IQ well, as she has excellent court vision and is a very willing passer, passing up open shots to make extra passes for an easier shot and often sees 1-2 moves ahead of opposing defenses. She has a smooth 3-point stroke, shooting a high percentage when she can step into her shot in rhythm and has a nice 1-2 dribble pull up off the shot fake when defenses take away the 3.
