The updated class rankings came out in September. We continue to break down the rankings. Let’s take a look at some of the top newcomers in the class of 2023.
Michelle Ugwah Michelle Ugwah 6'2" | PF DME Academy | 2023 State FL (DME Academy / DME Travel) – 6’1 Forward
Ranking: 12
Position Ranking: 4
Ugwah has a great body with a strong build. She plays extremely hard and aggressive! At 6’1 she can play inside and out, and is very effective at the mid and high post. She is athletic and strong as well as super active. She was one of the top rebounders I saw this July as she burst onto the exposure scene after playing with the Irish national team. She is the class of 2023s top newcomer, entering at # 12 overall and the # 4 forward.
Samari Wilson Samari Wilson 5'10" | SF Lake Gibson | 2023 State FL (Lake Gibson / East Coast United Richardson) – 5’8 Guard
Ranking: 53
Position Ranking: 9
This summer was the first-time seeing Wilson in quite some time and she was mistakenly left off the rankings in the first couple releases. She enters the class of 2023 rankings for the first time as a newcomer at # 53 overall and # 9 at her position. She is a big, strong guard with mass who played the point guard position for ECU. She has good handle, shifty open court and 1v1 moves, and her body allows her to take bumping and contact at the rim while remaining on balance and giving her scoring opportunities in the paint.
Alyssa Hines (Hagerty / Orlando Basketball Club) – 5’11 Forward
Ranking: 102
Position Ranking: 17
Hines is a tall, long forward that can shoot lights out. She is a very consistent threat from the outside but also showed the ability to put the ball on the floor to get to the cup. On the defensive side of the court, she uses her long arms protect the rim and block shots. She picked up quite a bit of interest from collegiate coaches and she should have an opportunity to play at the next level.
Bryanna Simmonds Bryanna Simmonds 5'8" | SG Deltona | 2023 State FL (Deltona / Orlando Basketball Club) – 5’8 SG
Ranking: 148
Newcomer: Yes
Position Ranking: 28
Simmons carries herself on the court very cool, calm and collected. She plays very smooth and efficiently with no wasted movement. She is very crafty with her the ball in her hands, attacking the rim and using a variety of finishes. Simmonds creates space with her step back and other moves off the bounce and knocks down open shots off the dribble and off the catch.
Zoey Wilson Zoey Wilson 5'5" | PG Edgewater | 2023 State FL (Edgewater / Orlando Basketball Club) – 5’5 PG
Ranking: 220
Position Ranking: 42
Wilson is a crafty guard that uses a step over and euro step move to get to the basket. She is a smooth guard that can knock down the mid-range jumper off the dribble as well as the deep ball. She is a high IQ point guard who runs her team’s offense efficiently, setting up her teammates for easy baskets, helping space the floor and promoting ball movement.
Ava Parrish (Lake Howell / Orlando Basketball Club) – 5’6 SG
Ranking: 229
Newcomer: Yes
Position Ranking: 35
Parrish is super-fast and athletic player that gets up and down the floor with pace. She uses a nice euro step move to finish at the basket. She consistently showed an ability to knock down outside shots. She is set up for a potential big high school season.
