2023 City Rankings: Houston (#10-#6)

Check out my analysis on some of the top performers in Houston! These ladies have really been performing over the summer and are primed to make some real noise during their senior year!   #10 [player_tooltip player_id='134034' first='Janae' last='Tucker'] 2023 5'6 Pearland High School    Janae is coming off of a serious ACL injury, and if not for that she would likely be even higher on this list. She seems to be moving very well currently, racing up and down the court for easy opportunities after taking the ball from her opponent. She is a complete defender, who has a knack of coming up with the basketball by playing both the passing lanes and by playing intense on ball defense. Her incredibly active hands wreak havoc defensively, tying up ball handlers as she comes over as a second defender. She flies over at the last second, and really pries on her opponent's for piking the ball up. She seems to always be reading her opponent's eyes and jumping the passing lanes. Her awareness on this end of the floor will allow her to walk onto any court at the next level and be able to hold her own on the defensive side of things.   #9 [player_tooltip player_id='134038' first='Flyin' last='Adeleye'] 2023 6'0 Katy Tompkins High School    Flyin is a complete three level threat at the wing/ power forward spot, stretching the floor and knocking down shots at a very high level. She is a consistent shooter off the catch, and loves spotting up in the corners and wings for easy opportunities. A confident shooter off the bounce, taking limited dribbles and getting to spots where she is comfortable. She has the ability to play outside in, or inside out depending on the match-up and what her team needs from her on a nigh to night basis! The threat of her shot from the perimeter is a real weapon, and she uses it to take her opponent's off the bounce and get into the paint. I loved how well she is able to change speeds, constantly playing at her own pace, allowing her to turn the corner on her opponents and softly finish at the rim. I would like to see her work on her explosiveness and her ability to jump multiple times down low.   #8 [player_tooltip player_id='65935' first='Kameryn' last='Phillips'] 2023 5'8 Humble High School    Kameryn is an aggressive two way guard who takes pride in her ability to affect the game on the defensive side, and make the right play offensively. She always has her head up to make the crisp pass to set up a teammate, especially on the break, scanning the floor to make the right read. Her aggressiveness is not limited to the defensive end of the court, she loves putting her head down and getting into the teeth of the defense and drawing second defenders. She is extremely comfortable in the mid-range, and loves getting to her spot atop the key. Phillips' efficiency across all three levels makes her a real threat when the ball is swung to her but also when she initiates offense. She is the ideal combo guard who can come in and make an impact at the next level right away with her non stop motor, and determination to get to her spots and knock down shots.   #7 [player_tooltip player_id='96143' first='Molly' last='Ly'] 2023 5'5 Cedar Park High School    Molly is a back to back state champion, playing key minutes two years ago and leading Cedar Park to the title game last season as their point guard. Her heads up ability to put pressure on the defense with her handle, threat to score from beyond the arc and get to the rim is at an elite level, and keeps the entire opposing team off balance, especially on the fast break. It is not to figure out why her team has so much success when you get to watch her run the show, calmly orchestrating her teammates, putting them in the right spots and directing traffic. She is a fearless slasher, which opens up all aspects of her game and forces her opponent's to play back on her. Ly calmly knocks down shots all over the arc as well, excelling as both a spot up shooter and off the bounce. Her ability to catch and shoot is already at a very high level, quickly getting her shot up before the defense can even react.   #6 Tobi Ademuwagan 2023 5'11 The Village School    Tobi recently committed to the University of Pennsylvania to continue her basketball and academic career, and it is not hard to see why when you watch her dominate across all three levels of the floor, calmly scoring off the bounce, out of the triple threat or off the catch. She displayed all of the necessary shot selection and shot making ability to become a high usage weapon at the next level. She is an extremely consistent and deadly shooter from the perimeter, even with a defender in her face. Ademuwagun knows how much space to create to get her shot off, and calmly picks her opponent apart with jab steps and hesitations out of the triple threat. Her calmness with a live dribble and her shot making ability with that dribble is special, and it is not hard to figure out why she already to committed to a high level school! Tobi really sets herself apart with her versatility on the defensive end as well, she can lock up guards on the perimeter, defend wings, rebound and protect the rim.
