There is still scholarship-level talent on the board and plenty of small-school prospects that can contribute to winning for the next four years. That said, let’s talk about a few of these kids.
Bella Oestreicher Bella Oestreicher 5'9" | CG Beaver Dam | 2023 State WI
The wing from Beaver Dam is much more important to the Golden Beavers’ success than most would think, and there is a reason for that. Versatile wing defenders are something all of the best schools in each high school division have, and Oestreicher plays that role well. Everything she does on the offensive end is a bonus, and that undersells how good the Golden Beaver is on that end, but it’s true. Oestriecher has the skillset that fits what the team looks for on the offensive end, with threes and shots in the paint. Some nights she plays the lead role knocking down five or six threes and leads the team in scoring cuts to the basket or beats her defender off the dribble, and other nights she is asked to play elite defense on the other end to help her team win. She may not be the first player you think of on a talented Beaver Dam unit, but she brings a lot to the floor.
Megan Murphy Megan Murphy 5'6" | CG Verona | 2023 State WI
When thinking about Murphy’s game, I can help but think about her basketball IQ. The Verona guard has counters to everything, and she keeps it simple, which has to be annoying to defenses. She has excellent spatial awareness and understands her own game better than anyone, which is essential. Murphy is a kid who can beat teams from the perimeter and attack closeouts, get by that defender, and hurt teams with her floater game. She’s earned a reputation for making the right decisions for a while now.
Lili Hartel Lili Hartel 5'9" | CG Mukwonago | 2023 State WI
You won’t find another defender as constantly physical as Hartel. She has a high motor, is used to playing against scholarship-level talent, and plays way larger around the basket than most kids her size. Her offensive game is solid. She can get to a few different moves she has confidence in, like a stepback jumper or a right-hand drive. Hartel’s strength helps her power through contact around the basket and battle for rebounds on both ends of the floor. She’s a chippy player coaches will love.
Unique players are always intriguing to watch, and Jossie is unique. The Stevens Point guard/forward plays like an undersized four who can play the four or five, even at 5-foot-9. She’s a crafty kid who always seems to find a way around taller defenders around the basket, even finishing a lefty reverse through contact in a game at Neenah last season. The other aspect of her game is that she’s a plus shooter and passer. Her game is well-rounded, and she helps her team on the offensive end in multiple ways. Her way of playing is endearing because it’s uniquely her, and she makes it work.
