The kids I want to highlight aren’t the traditional names I’ve highlighted over the past year. Some players have popped up on the scene this season and deserve some credit for playing well early on.
Kaia Waldrop Kaia Waldrop 6'0" | C Notre Dame | 2026 State WI
Waldrop is the key that turns the ignition at Notre Dame. She doesn’t have to score or attack the offensive end, but by being physical and being herself, she unlocks the Triton offense. Waldrops’ solid minutes at the five moves Wisconsin commit Gracie Grzesk Gracie Grzesk 6'0" | SF Green Bay Notre Dame | 2024 State WI back to her natural fit at the four and creates matchup issues for every team they play. I’m not sure what she can be long-term at Notre Dame, but her game gives the Tritons different options on offense.
Torie Neubauer Torie Neubauer 6'0" | PF Appleton East | 2025 State WI
Last season, I went to Appleton East to see Hortonville take on East, and I realized how good MiKayla Werner MiKayla Werner 6'0" | PF Hortonville | 2024 State WI is. Last night it felt like I had that same realization about Neubauer. The 6-footer is an athletic kid who rebounded at an elite level, battled on the glass, and ran the floor like a guard. After attending the game last night, I don’t know how many players I’ve seen, but Neubauer is the one who impressed me the most. The sophomore has every right to believe she’s the next talented 6-foot athlete coming out of the Fox Valley.
Rachael Jepsen Rachael Jepsen 5'11" | C Franklin | 2024 WI
Whenever I see Jepsen play, I feel like I take something else away from what she does. She’s a 6-foot forward with good touch around the basket and can stretch the floor back to the 3-point line if needed. Defensively, Jepsen moves her feet well and can defend most wings on the perimeter. I love that she doesn’t do too much and accepts what she needs to do to help her team win. Over the next year, with the loss of Taylor Wojcinksi next season, I expect Jepsen to explode onto the scene.
Ava C Hanson Ava C Hanson 6'0" | PF Oak Creek | 2024 State WI
Some kids have loads of potential but sacrifice for the betterment of their team, and that’s Hanson at Oak Creek. With a mid-major post ahead of her, she plays fewer minutes and does some stuff on the wing to give her teammates space. She moves like a guard and has plenty of room to grow offensively. She looked excellent this summer and could be one of the kids whose name gets talked about 12 months from now.
