Key Players for Surprise Teams Heading Into 2023

Today, I'd like to speak about a kid on these teams who've been excellent early on and what they bring to the team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='520310' first='Ella' last='Carstensen'], Hudson</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Hudson wing has been a part of one of the most consistent trios in the state, with [player_tooltip player_id='520312' first='Olivia' last='Grothaus'] and Grace Lewis. What makes Carstensen so good is her versatility. The 6-foot wing can move her feet on the perimeter and defend multiple positions. She uses her length and athleticism to make up for any mistakes made on the outside. I love her ability to make plays on the defensive end, and her ability to beat teams up in the paint with her size is fun to see on film. She's one of the best under-the-radar kids in the state.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='533060' first='Ady' last='Ketterhagen'], Oostburg</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The freshman from Oostburg has led the Flying Dutch in all three major statistical categories. When I saw her in her high school debut, she wasn't at her best, but she still was one of the most influential players on the floor. Ketterhagen is an elite athlete, and when she's making her jumpers, she becomes one of the most dangerous players in Division 3 and makes the Flying Dutch one of the most dangerous teams in the postseason.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='521879' first='Mackenzie' last='Tarman'], Turtle Lake</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The junior led the Lakeland-West in scoring last season. This season, she's doing the same thing as we flip the calendar into 2023. The 6-foot wing has all the tools to break a game open, and she's done that throughout the season. The 5-3 Lakers have had a difficult season thus far but are a team who can compete deep into the postseason and possibly make it to the Resch Center. If that were to happen, we'd all see who Tarman is as a player.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='347173' first='Violet' last='Morren'], Hillsboro</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Hillsboro's season ended abruptly last year. However, they seem to have turned a corner. That improvement is mainly down to how effective Morren has been this year. In July, it felt like Morren turned a corner and figured out what she needed to do to maximize her production on the floor. The 6-foot-4 center runs the floor well, gets under the basket, and her guards reward her effort. She even rebounded her area extremley well later in the AAU season, which has carried over to the high school season. Morren is the best available post in the 2023 class in Wisconsin.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
