Top long-distance shooters from MGBR Classic in the North

While the Midwest Girls Basketball Report’s Classic in the North had a handful of quality bigs to pore over, more of the teams in attendance were guard-oriented, and as a result, stocked with a proliferation of shooters. Here’s a look at some of the best long-distance snipers from tournament action last weekend: <strong>Emily Swiercz (2019), F1rst String Academy Team Black</strong> — The 5-foot-6 point guard from Carleton-Airport was good for at least one 3-pointer in almost every game FSA played in the tournament, hitting 10 treys in total. She popped three of them in a 55-42 win over Championship Sports in the Gold Division first-place game on Sunday, and four of them in a 57-33 win over PR1DE 2019. Mowery) <strong>Danielle Hopkins (2019), PR1DE 2019</strong> — The diminutive (5-foot-4) shooter from Oakland Christian was a bit hot-and-cold from downtown at the start of the tournament, but stayed hot once she got hot. Hopkins connected on 10 shots from behind the 3-point arc in five games. Four of those came in one burst — along with a heat-check heave in the open court after a turnover — against Michigan Basketball Academy. The all-time leader in 3-pointers made in a career and in a season in OCS history, Hopkins was recently one of 100 players invited to the Reaching Higher Showcase in July. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="22400" first="Meghan" last="Blaine"] (2019), Championship Sports</strong> — The 5-foot-9 shooting guard from Michigan Lutheran Seminary hit on seven 3-pointers in the five-game tournament, two each against Canada Airhawks and Northern Pride Blue, and three vs. Michigan Basketball Academy. <strong>Abigail Long (2020), FORCE 2020</strong> — The aptly-named 5-foot-5 point guard from Portage Central came up with six 3-pointers in the first four games of the tournament for a Force squad that was beating up the opposition by almost 40 points per contest — so there weren’t a ton of long-distance shots needed from Long. She still made the most of her limited opportunities. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147743" first="Maeve" last="St. John"] (2022), PR1DE Bernas</strong> — The 5-foot-5 point guard from Highlander Way Middle School in Howell went off from 3-point range in a pair of games, hitting for six 3-pointers in a three-point loss to Northern Pride Gillow, and four more against Greg Grant Elite.
