Continue ReadingWednesday was a banner day across the county as the McDonald’s All-American Game nominees were released. New Jersey had 26 representatives on its list, a wide range of players from the north to down south. Having already recapped half or so of the players in the first part, we’re going to round things out in this part, talking about the rest of the list.
Breana Delaney – St. John Vianney
Delaney is a guard who’s been steadily improving and with more playing time, is getting a great opportunity this season to showcase her talent as a starter/often-used bench player. Across the board, she’s been productive and has a great defensive tenacity to her as well.
Mikaela Hubbard Mikaela Hubbard 6'2" | PF St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – St. John Vianney
The Emory commit and 6-2/6-3 forward has featured often down low for the Lady Lancers and is really excelling in that role right now. She’s been utilized more as a bench piece for SJV, but her raw skillset is really something to behold come her college career.
Ashley Sofilkanich Ashley Sofilkanich 6'3" | PF St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – St. John Vianney
Like Hubbard, Sofilkanich is someone to watch out for down low, a great scorer, fantastic shot-blocker and productive piece of a championship team. Let’s not forget how strong of a foul shooter Sofilkanich is as well, but it really seems like this is her breakout season, her star-studded high school campaign.
Jada Jacobs Jada Jacobs 5'7" | PG Medford Tech | 2023 State NJ – Medford Tech
An underrated player coming out of South Jersey, Jacobs is one of the most talented pure scorers in the state, currently averaging 21.2 PPG this season with Medford Tech. Add on 10.2 RPG and seven steals a game for the senior and you truly have the complete package of a player.
Tyonna Bailey Tyonna Bailey 5'10" | CG Montclair Immaculate | 2023 State NJ – Immaculate Conception
Bailey has rivaled the best of them in New Jersey as one of the best pure scorers out there, and averaging over 21 points a game this season is only helping out her cause. The three-point game has been her friend in high school and so far, she’s knocking down two a game this season.
Emma Steidle Emma Steidle SG Clearview | 2023 State NJ – Clearview
One of the backbones of a strong Clearview team, Steidle has done a fantastic job across the board as a shooter, scorer, facilitator and leader. Averaging 16.5 PPG, Steidle is also knocking down threes and grabbing steals at a rate of nearly three a game for the Pioneers.
Meghan Lamanna Meghan Lamanna SG New Providence | 2023 State NJ – New Providence
Lamanna has picked up where she left off last season for New Providence, taking the team under her reins and going with it. She ticks off boxes left and right on a scouting report and has done a great job at balancing her game overall. It seems that both her rebounding and passing have improved early on this season as well.
Destiny Bynum-Johnson Destiny Bynum-Johnson 5'10" | SG University | 2023 State NJ – University
We are looking at a potential double-double average talent in Bynum-Johnson, who is teetering on the cusp of that through 11 games with University. What’s even more impressive is her 55 steals on the year, averaging five steals a game. Those numbers are video game numbers, truly.
Mya Davis Mya Davis PG University | 2023 State NJ – University
Davis popped off as a junior last season for University and is looking to get back to that form this season, struggling a bit offensively, but playing consistent and making threes when it counts. She’s hit over 1.5 three-pointers per game so far this season for University.
Julia Corsentino Julia Corsentino 5'9" | SG Rumson-Fair Haven | 2023 State NJ – Rumson Fair-Haven
From where Corsentino was last season, she’s taken that up a notch and then some with Rumson Fair-Haven this season, shooting lights out from three and just under 78 percent from the foul line. Averaging a career-high 17.2 PPG doesn’t hurt either for the Marist commit.
Katie Ledden Katie Ledden 6'0" | SG Rutgers Prep | 2023 State NJ – Rutgers Prep
A tall guard, Ledden relishes in mismatch opportunities on offense and utilizes her height to her advantage when shooting from three. Ledden is the most recent Argonaut to surpass 1,000 career points in high school as she’s currently averaging 16.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.4 BPG and 1.2 SPG this season.
Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ – Sparta
McCurry unfortunately suffered what looks to be a season-ending injury early on this season for Sparta, so we won’t be seeing her much, if not at all, on the court. That doesn’t take away from what a force she is as a forward, one of the most automatic double-double machines we’ve seen in New Jersey in recent years.
Ally Sweeney Ally Sweeney 5'8" | SG Sparta | 2023 State NJ – Sparta
With McCurry out, Sweeney has had to pick up the load and help fill the void for Sparta. Considering how good of a player she was last season, that wasn’t too difficult for the guard, who is as smooth a perimeter shooter as she is a passer. Another all-around superstar who has grown a lot offensively.
Rylie Theuerkauf Rylie Theuerkauf 5'7" | SG Tenafly | 2023 State NJ – Tenafly
There isn’t much to say about a player who’s already scored 2,000 points in her high school career and has become the leading scorer in the history of her high school’s girls basketball program. Theuerkauf is going to dazzle at Wake Forest and can score in ways we haven’t seen before and at a pace that is seemingly unmatched in the Garden State.
