Laiola Safford turned heads at the Newberry College Elite Camp with her length, athleticism, and ability to shoot from the perimeter. An under-the-radar prospect, Safford made an impact on both ends of the floor. While her defensive presence stands out, she also showed the ability to score in a variety of ways. Safford was effective attacking inside and demonstrated a reliable outside shot, particularly from the top of the key. Safford continues to improve her game, and her combination of size, defensive instincts, and perimeter shooting gives her the versatility to contribute in multiple roles on the court.

At 6’0, Stafford also gets a few blocks and she is long. Her mere presence makes attacking guards think twice about attacking the rim.

Safford played with energy and provided a spark, especially on the defensive end. She showed versatility with her rebounding, perimeter defense and defending in the paint. Her confidence showed even on the offensive end, including a three point shot from deep in the corner. Safford brings energy and a love for the game. She has the ability to impact the game in multiple areas on the floor, and this season should be the season she comes from under the radar.

is another player who is starting to break out. Safford is playing her first full year on Varsity and has become an important player on her team. Safford has great length and affects shots in the paint. She also rebounds well and runs the floor from the Center and power forward position. Safford isn’t the primary option on offense, but she does score on occasion off the pass and offensive putbacks. Safford does a good job of springing her guards open for the open shot with solid screens. Safford is a breakout player who continues to get better with each game. She played well at the Christmas Invitational.

has shown a lot of improvement over the past few years. Safford made key plays down the stretch of a close game. She has great length and is learning how to protect the middle of the paint from the center position. Safford rebounded the ball well and was good at kicking the ball to her guards for the fast break or open jump shot. The young Safford is providing glimpses of things to come. She looks imposing in the paint with her great length and motor. Coaches rave about the work she is putting in.

Nearly 6 feet tall, the 8th grader Safford made some plays against players much older than she is. Down the stretch in some close games, Safford had some very timely blocked shots. Her offensive game is still developing, but she can block shots if you challenge the lengthy middle schooler in the paint
