Mahli Abdouch Mahli Abdouch 5'7" | PG O'Gorman | 2024 State SD – O’Gorman – 5’7 – Shooters shoot and you will live or die with a 3 from Mahli depending on what side you’re on. High basketball IQ that continues to grow with each touch of the basketball and can really get it going offensively in any fast-paced offense. Probably more of a 2 guard, but you can’t deny how impressive Mahli is in the open court in finding teammates or attacking the rim at full velocity. Other than her scoring game Mahli’s got quick hands and feet that keep her in front of speedy guards. An immediate impact right away from this shifty point.
Lolo Carlow Lolo Carlow 5'8" | PG Red Cloud | 2024 State SD – Red Cloud – 5’8 – Overall bucket! Can score from literally anywhere on the court and has a beautiful arching shot when she shoots from deep. Do you need a 3? Lolo’s got you. Need a quick drive to the basket with a possible and-1 call? Lolo’s got you! I’m sure you get where I’m going with this. A monster performance waiting to happen nightly and a player that doesn’t just score but defends as well. Quick, hungry, aggressive, and ready to get after it.
Mara Grant Mara Grant 5'10" | SF Tea Area | 2024 State SD – Tea Area – 5’10 – ENERGY! Do you need it? Mara can give it! A spark plug of an athlete that is everywhere at once it seems like. An elite physical defender that can guard multiple positions on the court. In all honesty, Mara might be the best rebounder on this list and the sole reason she’s playing the 3 for this squad. Athletic, strong, and a great finisher in the paint, Mara is a rare bread of athlete that’s a defensive DOG! A must-watch this year if you haven’t seen her play.
Elly Doering Elly Doering 5'11" | SF Alcester-Hudson | 2024 State SD – Alcester-Hudson – 5’11 – Pick n’ roll monster! A player that understands her role and does it well. Set’s the best screens I’ve seen all year and knows how to roll to the hoop playing physical down low on the block. Elly does a great job setting up her teammates for open shots or drives to the basket. Along with being a team player, she’s a glass eater that possesses a high basketball IQ in reading rebounds. A vital player to any team that wants to play at a high level.
Carli Kuyper Carli Kuyper 6'2" | C Lennox | 2024 State SD – Lennox – 6’3 – Can’t spell defense without Carlie… Or something like that. A big body big that’s mobile and can play as a trailer when running a half-court offense. Doesn’t possess the greatest handles, but is trustworthy enough to put it on the deck from 15 out attacking the rim. A real game-changer down in the paint that doesn’t steer clear from contact. A solid finisher that is going to be an elite NAIA player if she goes to that division.
And that’s all… Team 2 was definitely structured around scoring guards and forwards that can play multiple positions on the court. As the saying has been score fast and play hard on defense to score again. We’ll shift our focus in the next few articles diving into dark horse players that you need to know about for this upcoming season.
