Expert Analysis
Avi Burmenko | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Leah does a great job attacking the basket from the perimeter and uses strong footwork around the rim to stay balanced and finish. She’s a reliable three-point shooter who can score both off the catch and off the dribble. With the ball in her hands at the top of the key, she makes smart decisions and consistently creates opportunities, while also generating turnovers by jumping into passing lanes on defense.

In the film watched of McKenzie from the weekended, she displayed a fabulous ability to knock down both open and contested 3s. Leah gave lineups that ideal spacing with the consistent threat of her shooting. She was also able to get herself to the line effectively. This should be a rankings rider coming up.

In her junior season, Leah has been a major contributor for Loomis Chaffee. She’s extremely quick getting to the rim, often needing just one move to beat her defender. At 6 feet tall, she uses her length well, shooting over contests and finishing over outstretched arms in the paint. Leah also moves effectively without the ball to find open looks on the perimeter and plays with patience in the pick-and-roll, creating easy scoring opportunities.

Leah McKenzie Leah McKenzie 6'0" | SF/SG Loomis Chaffee | 2027 State New E (2027) | 5’11 SF | Loomis Chafee
McKenzie already holds offers from Binghamton and LeMoyne so far. She provides a nice combination of weakside rebounding, poise in the paint, reliable perimeter shooting and soft touch finishes around the rim. Leah’s all-around game can be hard to get a gauge on as a defender. She takes what’s given and is efficient in doing so. The 5’11 IDream wing is a potent variable to her team’s success.

Leah McKenzie Leah McKenzie 6'0" | SF/SG Loomis Chaffee | 2027 State New E (2026) | 5’11 Forward | Farmington
Leah is a star in the making. Watching all the film on McKenzie it’s clear that she’s one of the most versatile prospects in all of New England. The 5’11 forward can play on the perimeter and in the post. Leah can play with the ball in her hands as well as without the ball. On the wing, she is a strong cutter that plays well off others within the offense. Leah can be put in dribble handoff scenarios and even run off staggered screens with her accurate long-range shooting. Inside in the mid-post, McKenzie offers some crafty creation in a pinch. Additionally, Leah is a monster on the defensive boards. She uses her long arms to snatch the ball from the weak side and shows the ability to start the break consistently after grabbing the rebound. Last year for Farmington, Leah was the total package. The rising junior is looking to add to her resume after having a successful AAU season with IDream. Leah has picked up offers from Le Moyne University and Binghamton University so far this summer. McKenzie is looking to add to her momentum this fall with Farmington, she’ll be taking a more distinguished role with them in the upcoming season.
