Commitment: Kirkwood CC (IA)
Victoria Williams has committed to Kirkwood CC out of Cedar Rapids to continue on her Basketball career. I truly love this move for both Williams and Kirkwood as a whole. This is a hooper that has shown promise over the years out of Ames. She has been someone that her team can rely on and she always has produced solid numbers. If she can get some more experience on her belt, she is going to be really good for another program following her Kirkwood stint. She is athletic, fast acting, and smart thinking. Sometimes you just need to take an extra year and compete for a D2 Juco National Title before moving to that next NCAA level and that’s what we have here.
Victoria Williams was only 4 Steals away from leading the state in the 5A Class in total Steals last Winter as a Junior. She finished things off with 93 total Steals, while the leader, who happened to be a Senior last season, finished off with 96. Williams is the only prospect in the Top Five for total Steals, who wasn’t a Senior last year, which is notable in itself. Williams recorded several of these steals because of her mixture of quick decision making combined with her sneaky athletic ability. She is a hooper that is VERY active on both ends of the floor. She is always trying to cause chaos defensively and she surely accomplished that last season whenever she took the floor. I’m looking for Williams to contend for the #1 spot in total Steals once again this Winter within this Class. She likes to lead her group with action and this is just another example of that on the defensive side of the ball.
Williams is a pass-first point guard with an old-school game. She makes money with tenacious on-ball defense using a combination of strength, quickness and smarts. Williams sees the floor well with the rock in her hands and can break down defenders off of the bounce. Once gaining an advantage, she makes good decisions, dishing off when the double team comes or finding her own shot if it’s there. Williams flashes clean shooting form and can score on all three levels. A tight handle also helps in breaking pressure. Williams limits mistakes and is a leader on the court.

will be Ames main weapon as a facilitator this Winter as a PG returning from last season. She will be the one called upon to make their big plays and to get their best players the ball when it matters the most. Not to mention, Williams happens to be someone with a nose for getting her hands on the ball defensively. She has quick feet and she understands the mental side of the game of basketball at a higher rate than most, which helps her record several tips and deflections throughout a ball game. Overall, there is a lot to like out of Williams in general. She helped her team lead their conference last year and I’m sure that will be their goal once again throughout the next six months as they work towards the State Playoffs.
