LaReesha left it all on the floor with a memorable performance for Franklin-Simpson in their first state tournament appearance in 16 years. Despite a tough start in the first half, she came out strong in the second, leading the charge when her team needed her most. She showed great composure, passing well out of double teams and made smart decisions with the ball. Her presence on the boards was pivatol, grabbing a big rebound and put-back late in the third while consistently scoring inside. LaReesha’s energy and determination fueled Franklin-Simpson and help them close the gap, but was not enough to beat 10th region powerhouse GRC.

LaReesha surpassed the 2,000-point mark in a win over Glasgow this week, to go along with 1,000 career rebounds. The 2x 4th Region Player of the Year, and Miss Basketball Candidate is having a dominant senior season, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game while leading her team to a 23-2 record. LaReesha is super-talented plus experienced and I think she is ready for redemption after falling just short last year. Franklin-Simpson is the top team in the 4th region and they will be hard to handle in the postseason.

has been on a tear so far this season. She had a game-high 35 points, and added 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in 63-50 win over a talented Henderson County team last week, followed by a team-high 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead her team to victory against Hart County on Monday. Franklin-Simpson is 4-0 and look to complete the mission and make it to Rupp Arena this season.

It’s not common to see a player go from unranked to top 20 in the class but LaReesha had a huge Junior season for the Wildcats on their way to a 30 win season. Cawthorn averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game and should be the frontrunner for 4th region player of the year next season.
