Forwards to Watch : MAYB National Pool Play

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I was able to catch the morning pool play session of last weekend's MAYB Nationals, and saw a bigger collection of talent than I'd seen all summer. Athletes from Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma all converged in the Santa Fe Life Center as the KS [program_tooltip program_id='715920' first='B2B' last=''] Elite Eagles were able to go home with the hardware. I wasn't able to see the eventual champion, but did get a look at the runner-up, as well as the third place team, and the Division II eventual champion. Also missed out on what looked to be a very good OK [program_tooltip program_id='713090' first='Supreme' last='Nation'] team. With 37 teams vying for a National Title, its hard to catch everyone. Uses her long wingspan to block shots. Kept shooting through a cold spell to eventually heat up and make it a game with the OK Legacy. Teams with Zoe Scharnhorst to form a really good 1-2 punch of athletic forwards. Lanney has a quick release, and can score inside as well. Her passing off the move is her most elite skill. Coming down the lane hard, but always in control. Gets post positioning very well. Well put-together all around game that is going to compliment any team nicely. Handles contact very well, and can go get passes in the open court like she's a wide receiver. Really loves the midrange jumper. Comfortable being a playmaker from the high post. Legacy ran a lot out of "Horns" (4-high) sets where they were able to play through Deziree and get a lot of good things going. Really dangerous at the mid post as a scorer as well as a passer. Good downhill guards like Kirra Long and Beclyn Garrett play very well off of her. Got stuck in a very tough pool bracket with the [program_tooltip program_id='712608' first='Lady' last='Heat'] and Kansas Triple Threat, but I was very impressed with what I saw from their top players.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
