Given that Kentucky has a reputation for being one of the premier basketball states in the country, it is only fitting that it would be a state with a litany of talent at the high school level.

That is certainly the case – at all levels. A large number of that freshman talent was on hand at the MidAmerica Sports Center in Louisville to showcase their skills as part of the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase.

As we inch ever so closer to tip-off of the 2024-25 regular season, one of the prevailing stories will certainly be which 2028s will emerge to have breakout freshman campaigns. Here are a few more to watch for.

In the high school game, 20-point games are common from a team's primary scorer. But when that 20-point game is coming by way of someone in the eighth grade, that is when one knows they could be witnessing something special. That is what Adler accomplished in December in a win for Logan County over Clinton County at the State Farm 4th Region Challenge in Bowling Green. Adler has ran on the grassroots circuit with Kentucky Premier EYBL. Adler is an efficient floor runner who never takes a play off. Versatility is another hallmark of her game as she can operate at either the two, three or four.

Abrell's athletic schedule gets particularly busy during the second half of the school year. Not only does she excel on the basketball court but she also displays her many athletic talents on the softball diamond as well. During the spring and summer months, she has ran on the grassroots circuit with [program_tooltip program_id='714298' first='SOKY' last='Starz']. Abrell has a 3-point shot as part of her arsenal and can come through on the defensive side of the floor with steals. Last season for Russell County, she averaged 8.1 points a game. After an 18-win season in 2023-24, the future for the Lakers is bright.

Glasgow had a down season in 2023-24 from their previous rendition where they won 14 games. A bright spot appeared for the Scotties that should give those who bleed blue excitement for the future. Slagle averaged 11.8 points per game for a Glasgow squad that appears to have found its core player for the next four seasons. One of Slagle's signature performances from the previous season occurred in a December contest with Bowling Green. Slagle tallied 22 points. She also bolsters the Scotties' rebounding efforts and can be proficient as a passer. Look out for Slagle on the defensive end as well as she is a threat to collect steals and give her team additional possessions.

Kourtlee maintains a Keene eye for the game. By the recent standards of East Ridge girls basketball, last season was a banner year for the Warriors – and Keene was a centerpiece of those efforts. East Ridge put together a 13-win season – the winningest campaign for the program since 2015-16. In addition, Keene had a great eighth grade season as she averaged 12.8 points per game. Keene is another who has a full athletic plate during the spring semester. Alongside her basketball achievements, she also thrives as a softball player at East Ridge.

This Price has been right for Scott since her seventh grade season – the first season she sported the Eagles signature blue. Price averaged 8.7 points last season as an eighth grader at Scott. The talented young guard is able to fuse together ball handling capabilities with speed that will confuse many a defense. Her defense can give problems for opposing teams and she will find ways to score – either as a rim attacker or as a midrange and long range shooter. Scott graduated an astounding 10 seniors from last season's rendition, meaning Price is sure to be one of the focal points for the Eagles for the next several seasons.

Given that Kentucky has a reputation for being one of the premier basketball states in the country, it is only fitting that it would be a state with a litany of talent at the high school level.
